I can design templates (in .PSD) my coder can convert them into SICK wordpress themes (proper coding, etc). The total price is at around $200-300 (that includes adding CMS, up to 3 basic plug-ins, fully customized, etc). My question is... where can I find people who need a website? Like... how can I promote my self? Or where should I look for them?

Oh, and a spin off question of it is, what if I make a site that sells wordpress themes for like $37? But put a cap on each blog, like "After 35 downloads, this blog will be removed" or somethng

Dude just go to odesk.com or freelancer.com and look for jobs, plenty of people there need websites built.

Or if you're serious about it, start doing offline stuff. Go around to local businesses and talk to them, most of them will want a website if they don't already have one and you are professional sounding. You can charge a one time fee, then a monthly fee to keep it updated and stuff. Get a reseller hosting account or something and give them hosting through that to make even more money.

If you want to do freelance work there are a ton of sites but also a ton of competition.

I started out doing this, I find locally is the best way to go about it.

I started out charging $300 for a site... Mind you this was 8 years ago.. then I gradually increased my price to around $1000.. started designing for dental offices, law firms ect..

One thing your going to realize though is that some clients are more trouble then what their worth.

Just make sure you set out clear terms so your not working and reworking the same site.

Start out small.. offer some cheap but decent work to smaller companies in the area... Give some offers to some pizza shops around town or something to that effect.. Build your portfolio

Offline marketing is pretty much key to your success, if your good with Photoshop... dont be afraid to make up some flyers with an Eye catching image... Hell steal the images for your offline stuff.. get some good quality stuff!

Beat me to it... must have hit enter before I did it.. Great advice from MJordan.. and yeah.. dont forget to make some backend cash from hosting refferals

can you PM me samples? I always keep my eyes open for good, reasonably priced designers to work with.

Take the numbers of the local business people around your area. And call them and gently (like a salesman) Ask them whether they need a website? If yes go for it. Offer the lowest price as they may quickly say no if they don't think website for them isn't really worth.

You may go to JustDial or GooglePlaces for numbers of small business around you.

Firstly, make your own site! (if you don't already have one)

How do they know you are a reputable website designer if you don't have your own impressive website displaying all your amazing work you have created over the years.

Hint: Don't let them know you are just starting out.

Smoke and mirrors.

Can you PM me a sample? Looking for design + integration.

Regards,

It's kind of a none question, web design is very competitive so if anybody really knows they're not telling.

Buy a BST here. You will get plenty of work. With your price point (providing you are as good as you say you are), you shouldn't have any issues getting work. Also, post a couple ads in Craigslist services section. Oh, and like other's said, it definitely helps to have your own website:)

I do not understand why people answer post from 2010...

Find in yellow page companies that do not have website, contact them

Which BSTs do you recommend?

i have the best graphics designer skills if anyone need my help so please let me know.

I can provide list of people who might just need websites. This will make you earn thousands once you show them your designs, they might just decide to have a site of their own as their company don't have one yet.

4yr old thread!
