Hey guys,

I'm thinking of starting a local listing management firm here in Florida. We'll create, claim and manage Google maps listings for small business at $97/month.

At this point I'd like some feedback on:

  • The price of the service
  • The service it self

As in, as a business owner, would you be interested in something like that and or could you afford that price?

Please and thank you.

I think the price is a little steep for what's being done. I would say a $97 one-time fee and maybe $19.99/mo maintenance fee would be a lot more reasonable. The maps stuff rarely if ever has to change and it's not exactly like it's hard to do. I think the only way you're going to get the market share you're looking for is to make it so cheap (as pricing above that I mentioned) that it's worth it just in the time savings alone.

Keep in mind, to a small business $100 bucks can mean a lot of money. I bump into a lot of them with pitiful marketing budgets of $200-$300 tops per month. So if you want the little bit of money they have to spare sell at a fair price where you can make money and they don't have to sell their first child to pay you (I mean that in a friendly/joking way btw). :)

Also, when I say "pitiful" marketing budgets. I by no means want to offend the small guy, I just mean that many (but not all) of the small biz guys I run into simply don't understand marketing or really how to run a business often times. With that said, marketing tends to be their last planned expense. Also, with the tough economy a lot of people are just trying to scrape buy, especially the small guy running a mom and pop shop.

Thank you so much. That meant a lot.

On the other side of a coin... the company I work for charges less than the standard for our target niche. We frequently have salesmen (from other companies) telling our prospects that their is no way they can get the job done for that price, and the results will be subpar.

Try out both methods for yourself. Test what works for you.

I think that you will get higher end clients that pay that, and if the price is too low then you get the cheapo's that end having a false concept of what they purchased, thinking you are supposed to take them to the top of the world with a cheap service. Be realistic man and target the higher end businesses that will pay this fee. Those are where the best clients are at.

Simple then, he can add a guarantee of some sort. Easy enough, not exactly like it's hard to deliver. Maybe something like a 60-day money back guarantee. Those tend to really boost sales too.
