LOL The fact is Japan and the U.S. are in bed together on copyrighted items usually even though they may not always follow their set laws, hence the reason why we steal much of their material and they do the same with ours in their country.
When it comes to an individual of course they will more readily call you out, threaten you with copyright breach fees and fines most likely as they would in the U.S. but that just really depends on what and how much your uploading and to what group. Are you file sharing it to hundreds and thousands or a much lower scale? (don't need an answer just posing the question for thought)
I lived in Japan for 5 years and the U.S. and Japan respect each others rules pretty much down the line for the most part on the surface. It's just up to you really. I mean, can you hack the basic punishment of bamboo being shoved under fingernails or the water drip to the forehead for days on end?
