EMD question

ok i've read a lot on this forum and i have to say thanks! i'm actually making money online not a lot... not enough but it's still something...

i now want to create a micro-niche single purpose website but the EMD.com/org/net is already taken. A lot of people say that a .us domain isn't going to rank well enough as a TLD but since my main target is US isn't that good ?

Also if my targeted keyword is the plural of a word ... will i still be able to rank as well with a domain that uses the singular of the word ?

example: cool shoes - keyword and coolshoe.com domain ?

also for the keyword i'm targeting there 90.500 [6.600 exact and for US there are only 720] monthly global searches and for the singular keyword there are only 40.500 [210 exact for US only 22]

do you think it's worth trying to rank something like this and when people search for cool shoes will my domain be eligible for that search ?

Plural and .us domain are great. I don't see any problem for that at all.

As long as your on page/off page seo are on point, whether or not you have an EMD is not very significant.

I would just get a .com if i was you, just pick a different name. Anything related to your keywords is gonna be fine. Even if its more generic, but still related.

this is a one page sales pitch website. not a lot of content on it.... and there are about 190.000 videos on YT for this keyword

2 questions:

1) what's with the post count ?
2) so out of your answer i should understand that it's better to go with the .us domain because it's a EMD while the only .com available is a letter short of my targeted keyword thus transforming it into a whole different search ... but for broad searches ... if some searches for 'cool shoes' wont my domain appear also seeing how it has 90% of the same letters ? or does it only work with domain names that are long tail keywords

after writing the above post... i actually went on google and searched for cool shoes

results: cool-shoe.com is the 3rd result for a broad search while coolshoes.com is the 6th.

for "exact" search the domain coolshoes.com is the 5th while cool-shoe.com doesn't appear on the first page.

anyone knows of a good free tool for serp checking... just want to see if for the "cool shoes" search the serps show the domain coolshoe.com

also another thing... is it healthy SEO practice to use a lot of dashes in the domain name "world-war-2.com" ?

you can register some other domain that have your keyword include,.com is best,you can also choose .net.org,EMD not work as well as before after google update,better start with keyword don't have lot of competitors.you need to bring fresh content and link building strategy for your site,search this forum,you will find many useful thread,thanks

Hey, OP, you may have heard that Google recently expanded the list of top-level domains which it doesn't automatically associate with any country in particular, but actually lets you set the geo target in Webmaster tools.

I would keep in mind EMD means EXACT. It's important to have keywords in the domain, where it makes sense, but it isn't everything.

I've messed with a few EMD's over the last few months, and I've gone with off the wall domain names that had nothing to do with the niche. They rank the same with proper off page and on page SEO.

Do not spend too much time on the domain.

.us ranks just fine, but in my opinion a .org .net .com just looks better to most people.

EMD or not it doesn't really matter anymore. Usually i would go to a domain name as close to your keyword but with the less characters as possible. meaning that between coolshoe.com and coolshoesssss.com i would go with coolshoe.

There is a noticeable correlation between url length and ranking well, where the less characters your url has, the better the chances it has to rank

If all the domains are taken I'm assuming that there will be some intense competition in this niche. Are you sure it's worth your time? Especially if your site is going to be a one page pitch... can you compete with that?

Aside from the singular to plural isnt that big of a difference but it can mean the difference between #1 and #2 (all other things being the same) Google recognizes that they are synonymous, but all other things being the same except the URL, if someone types in cool shoes Google will return coolshoes.com over coolshoe.com. With so many factors involved in ranking though "all things being the same" is highly unlikely so go with whatever works.

I wouldn't bother with anything only 750 local searches a month to begin with. Unless it's niche as hell, and the product is both amazing and expensive anything <2000 searches is probably going to be not worth the effort.

EMD is not that much important. Go for the domain which has the main keyword. Then only your website will get good ranking. .com domain is better compared to others. Use unique, quality content in your website.

Yea I agree, its all about the content and backlink profile, honestly the EMD update that google made months ago really de-vauled EMD, the significance is barely noticeable.
