Tips For Tumblr SEO

I tried searching and Googling but failed to do so. All the methods were either 2 to 3 years old or Google has passed them out. My blog has a pretty decent presence on Tumblr. So, I'm thinking it to moving to the next level.

What are the best possible SEO techniques that can really help on Tumblr and as well on Google. Right now, I'm using Tumblr's default url but soon I'll be shifting to my custom domain keeping the Tumblr hosting. Would that be a good idea?

1. Beef up the <title> tag.
   Add the Post Summary to the Title, as its more likely to gain you search spots than the title alone.

5. Use <h1>.
   Delve into your themes custom HTML and find the {block:Title} and replace it with this.

6. Add a social button.
   Search engines rank sites higher by the the amount of sites that link to a page, so make it easy for people to link to you.
   
   
7. Piggy back on Tumblr's limited SEO.
   Go to the "customize" settings, and under Advanced, and tick Use descriptive URLs and Allow search engines to index your blog.
   
   
8. Add Google Analytics so you can track your progress.

It's true that you'll earn more with your own site. The reason many people I know use blogger or tumblr is because they make blogging so easy. For example, just install Theme and Tumblr will do all the work for you.

I use only blogger blogs- I will get around 6000 to 8000 page view per day - based on my niche week ends i get upper limit traffic.

It depends on your niche. If it is a strong niche with tight competition, you will find it very hard to get to first page with Tumblr et al. These days it is not that hard to set up your own blog on wordpress coupled with the fact that there are some really wicked plugins out there that will automate anything for you, your own site is the way to go.
