Do wikipedia.org links pass authority?

Hey, I was looking at a post on BHW where a guy was selling wikipedia.org articles with links to you your site in them for $1000. Instead of asking on his post, I will ask here. Do those links pass auth? If so, how? They are no-follow.

They dont pass link juice but they are a web authority so add credibility to your site.

Most important use if wikipedia is traffic...It is one of the most popular websites on the web.

$1000 for what ? I pay $50ish per link on wikipedia. I also only link credible sites and products that look like they should be there. Dont think you can randomly throw your links at wikipedia. Firstly they wont stick secondly your website will be added to the spam pile.

There are several measures of trust and authority. Those links don't pass PR directly but help establish the domain name as an authority because spammy links will normally be deleted from Wikipedia, so links which stay there a long time are considered relevant to the theme.

It sounds very logical that wikipedia links, even n0f0llowed, would give a site some authority. But has any sort of testing been done to see if having wikipedia link(s) really does protect your site from negative SEO, etc?

I'm just gonna go ahead and add that I'd much rather have a Wikipedia backlink than not have one. ;]

You might not get any link juice from wikipedia links but they might add the following benefits:

Added credibility/branding for your site
Direct traffic
There are many people who rip wikipedia - your link might get 'syndicated' as source

I have ranked low-competition pages with only one link from Wikipedia.

I don't think I could rank a high or even medium competition link like that, but they definitely pass on something even if not crazy link juice.

Regarding the $1,000 price tag, that's just freaking crazy. ANYBODY can make a wikipedia link. You just have to do it in a smart way:

1.) Make a wiki editor account.
2.) Edit 5-10 pages with good useful edits to build profile credibility.
3.) Add the website you want to link to as a reference on a relevant article. This is the tricky part. You have to make sure it's a relevant-looking reference otherwise it will get deleted.

Yes - one editor account will allow you to edit in any language. I am posting a thread with some more information in the Blackhat SEO forum in a little bit. I will give more information on making links stick there...

Wikipidea has worst paranoid cross checking than anywhere else. Even when one editor add content or approve something another 2 editors check these etc etc.

Really problem is keeping those links intact long term. Any sign of Adsense or affiliate ads on your page then the link will be gone before you know it.

through my personal experience it do not pass authority....... otherthan youtube, facebook, twitter also does the same
