Help needed with a duplication error please

I am just analysing one of my sites and I am getting a few duplication errors coming up for a couple of pages - www.domain.com and www.domain.com/index.html. Obviously these are the same page and I can't set up a redirect because that would cause an indefinite redirect loop. Is there anything I can do about this? What do others do?

Have you tried the redirect? I've redirected extensions like this and it works just fine. Also, have you used rel="canonical" to let search know which root is the right one to index?

Thanks Shawn. That redirect code works. I didn't think this was possible because domain.com was getting the code from domain.com/index.html and by redirecting the domain.com/index.hmtl to domain.com, you were creating an indefinite redirect loop. Not sure how this code gets around this but it does!
