Hello all,

I was wondering how possible it would be to outrank an IMDB webpage for a certain series given that you use the correct keywords.

Thank you,

You need to have link from very valuable places like wikipedia etc.
For example, for software keyword, you need to get software keyword link from wikipedia.

Outrank them with the same KWs ?

I mean, for example, if I were to show the episode list for, let's say, Family Guy. Do you think it would be possible to appear before imdb on those terms?

The thing is that people tend to write a lot of reviews and link to those pages that it is too difficult to outrank them.

I second this, the problem with IMDB is similar to Wikipedia ie: People will link voluntarily to it. Especially for the kw Family Guy which is a hugely popular program amongst the very demographic who are most likely to share websites and stuff.

Unless you are clever enough to come up with a smart viral campaign or something I'd leave well alone. Work on something possible in your budget / technical levels.

Well f###, you guys are totally right, I guess I screwed up getting a domain for a purpose like this. But I figure I won't lose much more at this rate by at least trying to do this. Who knows, I might learn something else on the way. Thanks for your insight :)

It's possible in other ways though.Tossing in an extra word can get you above IMDB.Just don't try and rank for searches where IMDB is probably the default #1.
Create a lot of anchor targeted backlinks(mix of ******** and nofollow)to your website/page and you can outrank IMDB for your targeted keywords. I have outranked codeproject (high authority) for product keyword phrases many times.
Most of these big websites rank because of the domain authority but they generaly don't have a lot of good backlinks to specific pages so there is a chance for us take a shot.

Remember that search engines are not the only source of traffic.

You're totally right, although I feel that if I don't start with the right foot with google it might get harder afterwards.
I'm going to try anyway and I'll make sure to report you guys my results (I'm a complete newbie anyway though, so I don't know if it counts much).

Well I said I would try. I have yet to do offsite seo but the site appears sometimes #1 and sometimes #3 on both Bing and Yahoo search (for all that matters). When it's on pos.3 it's below Wikipedia as I thought.
While according kw research with google it has around 13k searches per month I have yet to have any organic traffic through Bing or Yahoo search (maybe they suck that bad?). Will inform if I see anything relevant.

I know this is really old thread, but have anyone of you success with outranking imdb?

Outranking IMDB for a tv show or a movie is almost impossible to achieve... it takes money, a lot of money....
