Your favorite SEO/Link Building methods for 2013

I see so many posts and websites about SEO/backlinking/link building. Being that I really am overwhelmed being a newbie and looking at the ocean of knowledge, I'm wondering what you guys think is the best post or website that's relevant to this year (after the Google updates)?

I see two main methods being described of:
1. Tiered link building (Tier 3 i think you can create thousands of spammy backlinks up to tier 2 and then tier 1)
2. Buying high PR domains (for the purpose of creating backlinks to your niche sites)
Oh and then for the guys with the $$, you can buy traffic (i think) and backlinks.

I'd love to find a step-by-step guide that you guys find is a favorite.

someone posted a very very good guide about link building for 2013.. I was just checking to try and find the thread but it seems it has been deleted.... hmmm.....

anyway yes, you can also consider guest posting, or link exchange with niche-related blogs. You can contact webmasters and ask them for a link on their site (you offer something in return.. samples of your products, money, a link on your site, etc.). etc.. the idea is to have a link on a website that is relevant (to an extent) and high authority.
 
You will not find an exact step by step guide. You have to read around, read what about methods that are currently working for others, try them out yourself and alter accordingly.
You have to be smart these days, you have to work smart as well. Looking for handouts is a waste of time, take action and start your own project asap.

I believe and have tested it as well, that only seo doesnt work these days

you need to have a solid sharing of social signals on your main backlinks to get better rankings

that is, if you understand the pyramid structure, social sharing (fb likes, google plus 1s, twitter retweets etc) shall be done on the urls of money site as well as on tier 1 links

This and buy some quality high pr posts Link them to your money site. You will be good
 
Frankly speaking there is no strategy working, Best advice would be to try yourself and test various methods. You will understand what is working or not.
 
Link Pyramids is effective,but i think Link relative is very important!
 
I would suggest to do outreach marketing in your niche.
It's more important to get a contact list of marketers in your field, so you can get guest posting in high traffic sites.
That traffic from there will help when you're not on page 1.

Get viral on twitter, if you don't have high quality content,
make friends with someone with retweeting bots....

Does anyone use Odesk or similar sites to outsource seo? Or do you mainly use fiverr or manual link building?
 
SEO is 90% content creation. If you're looking for a cookie cutter strategy then you won't find one here. Just focus on building unique content and use SEO.
 
After creating wonderful content, only go for social share. Also I have got good result with social bookmarking and directory submission.
 
My preferred method is buying High PR sites. It's not cheap, especially if you do it right. I'll spend $1-$2k per month on domains each month, but I also do this as a service, so I spend a little more then the average bear.

There are plenty of places that sell domains with high PR domains. The trick is to check the backlinks and see if the site has a good backlink structure. Last thing you want is to buy a domain, then a month later all the links are removed and there goes all your pagerank.
 
Tier Link Building is my favourite link building method.
