using torrent downloaded images safe?

that would be considered pirated images, yes. I've heard of some cases (even members of this forum) receiving C&D letters or having an owner of a photo emailing them telling them to remove it. You will most likely be fine for a MNS though

I believe anything you download in Torrent is illegal and what's more, a lot of their files are said to contain viruses.

Only things that you are supposed to purchase/have copyrights are illegal in torrents

Hm, but how can they possibly spot, that these are downloaded images and not legally purchased ones? is there an id print on the image?
I mean, lets just pretend i buy an image, how do they know this is legally purchased? does every download of a legally purchased picture posess another unique footprint?
this would be super intereting to know.
I'm sure you get some form of receipt and license when you buy a stock photo, i'm not sure how they locate the pirated/stolen pics maybe through meta data or something

someone say don't upload the original pic, screenshot and paste and save as other file name instead (mentioned in another thread)

This is a fine solution to me, sounds very blackhat :)

You gained a level!
Rep has risen by 5!

You'll be in trouble if some one identify them as pirated images and if they reported it to shutterstock.

They, we (i also have images in stock photo sites, but only a few so I'm not concerned with copyright problems) don't have a way to know for sure that you have a stolen image. The photographer has to contact you and ask you for an unique id that comes with each purchase. And if you don't hqve it than it's a problem. Or they can give you a c&d order and you can fight that with your purchase id. Anyway i think you will be fine.
