Ride safe guys, don't be a statistic

Anyone who knows me personally or online will know that I love bikes with a passion, I have a few and I do track days and all sorts!

Last couple of days or so I've found out that my cousin hit a tree and a friend hit a lamppost and they have both lost their lives!

Both have kids
Both have families
Both were awesome people

Maybe both could have been avoided, maybe not but the point is this;

1: The sunshine does not give you a force field to go faster
2: Wear the right gear
3: Ride to your abilities
4: If your group ride is going faster than you really want to to be going, break away!
5: Do advanced training

Be safe guys.... I've seen two dead bodies this week and will be going to two funerals next week

Don't be the person that people are mourning over

Very sorry to hear that. Ive lost a few people I know over the years as well but two in the same week is a heartbreaker.

Good advise on staying safe, wear the best gear you can afford and practice defensive riding. Love bikes but they are dangerous.

I lost my best friend through a car accident last year. He was only 20 years old.

I'd like to add some things to your rules:

1: The sunshine does not give you a force field to go faster
2: Wear the right gear
3: Ride to your abilities
4: If your group ride is going faster than you really want to to be going, break away!
5: Do advanced training

6: Do not drive under the influence of drugs (includes meds that may seem harmless)
7: Stop driving if you are tired or unconcentrated
8: Make enough pauses if you are driving a long distance
9: Check if it is necessary to drive by bike/car or if you can walk (has also environmental reasons)
10: DO ALWAYS WEAR A SEATBELT IF YOU ARE DRIVING A CAR, EVEN IF YOU ARE DRIVING JUST ONE METER. My friend lost his life because of not doing that (it happened on a really short distance from his home).

Few more, from my experience of watching people try to kill themselves:
11. Wait till you're more mature and experienced before buying a bike that goes 0-60 in 3 seconds. A friend of mine got Yamaha R1 when he was 15, it was pretty much his first bike. Needless to say, he learned the names of all the nurses in our hospital.
12. Don't try to show off or do anything to impress someone

I'm not a biker myself, I used to think it was a dangerous hobby, but now when I look at it... seems like the only injuries that happen, they happen to people who think it's not fun if you're not going 150mph, they are the next Valentino Rossi, the whole world is their race track, and nothing bad could ever happen to them.

I know plenty of people who've been riding powerful bikes their whole lives, and they never had even smaller injuries (or so they say). What they all have in common is maturity, responsibility and focus on safety. If you'd ask them for a tip, they'd tell you how to ride safe, not how to go faster or do crazy tricks.

Most bike accidents happen at 20-40 mph in traffic due to car drivers changing lanes without looking or forgetting to break.

And riding on open roads, you can fall due to poor asphalt and/or sand, oil spills on the road, even if you're riding at speed limits, only experience saves you from that sort of accidents.

The best you can do is follow the rules wannabie and Erbensuppe posted, oh and buy the most expensive protective gear you can find, it's expensive for a reason .

Oh and I would add another one: LEARN TO FALL PROPERLY, it can save your life.

To the OP, condolences, I hope there will be lots of bikers for their final ride.

Some great advice here from the OP and others. The only thing I'd like to add is to invest in an aftermarket motorbike air horn. They have 3 times the decibels of a car horn and mine has saved from distracted drivers more than once.

Actually i hate every kind of drugs and even the cigrattes. The reason I have it in profile is that it reminds me to not go even close to such stuff.

This is why I always stop myself from buying that S4 or 998s. I want them, but by nature I'm a risk taker and a speed junkie. Instead I opt for 3 and 4 wheels that can go just as fast. I have kids and a wife so I just don't buy the bikes. I thought about buying one of those reverse Y trikes recently, but I think it would be just as bad.

I'll stick to a high powered charger or my m3.
