Now I leave to a new place in January and create the roadmap for others to follow if they want to....I am talking to someone who might move to Thailand and if they do the same then we have 3 place that anyone can pick-up and go and within 24 hours be up and running in a live/work environment that is very nice and very affordable.

I've been travelling around Mexico and Guatemala these past couple of years. If anyone wants any info let me know. Hopefully you do Brazil and we can catch up around February/March

What kind of places do you stay at when you travel? I can't imagine getting much work done in the hostels when everyone else is surfing and partying.
 
I don't know how to make it happen, im russian but i moved to portugal when i was 5 and people were and still are very nice and most of them treat well people from other countries... spain also seems like a nice place to live, like near mediterranean sea
 
I managed to get good autopilot earnings. Usually I stay un hostels but I dont really do the ones with crazy australians who who drink and do coke all day. I usually stay at places where theres other people that have to work to travel (musicians/artisans) Like superflz said, it's also really inexpensive to rent out furnished places with everything you need to make monkeyz out here.
 
The states you posted are totally wrong

Murder rate Mexico 18.1 per 100,000

Your 3.7 times more likely to be murdered in Mexico than in the United States.

Adjusted for population differences and per capita amount of cars there is only about 9% higher number of cars stolen in the U.S. over mexico not 800%.
 
I spoke basic HS Spanish but I made myself learn and it was fun. I'll give you guys an example of what i mean and the type of places I stay....this is a city called Cordoba (Mexico) about 30-40 minutes to the coast in some of the most amazing colonial style cities surrounded by lush greenery. A nice hotel room runs you about $70US a day but not for us ;)

Started playing poker with some ex-pats and before I knew it I made a friend named Frank and he rents out this cottage which is very nice.

We talked and he made me a deal and I stayed there for around $200 per month fully furnished with low grade wi-fi but very nice place! Then I met a guy that went to Chico State who was friends of Frank named Manny who runs an outsourcing shop downtown. We talked and he rented me an office space for $40US per month with a desk etc. Not to mention the best way to no be a shut-in and to meet people is to hit the foreign water cooler and talk to everyday people.

Food and Drinks per Month: $150
Laundry etc: $50

Total for the month of living in a nice place in Mexico and having a office workspace......drum roll please! $440

Now imagine if we could get 500 of these same contacts/deals for cities all around the world! How sweet would that be?

The idea was simple enough: Setup a network that could share info on places that an IMer who has the means and is mobile (not tied down to any country) could just pack up and go and be set up and living in that country for a few months and then again pack up and go and be living and working in another country for another few months! Great idea but its turned into a Mexico bashing or talk of renting out rooms in your apartment which totally is not what this thread is about!!

Personally i have been living and travelling in Asia the last couple of years and countries that fit well with the original post are Thailand and Phillipines. Cheap cost of living, easy to get visas and also easy to get setup in an apartment that has everything within 24hrs with the right info...which is what the ops setting up a network suggestion is all about.
 
Mexico is amazing, I have friends living their right now and I have backpacked it myself - from Monterrey down through to Puerto Escondido - it is totally safe, you just can't be a fool. Do your research, ask local advice (I am lucky enough to have friends all through Mexico), and you will have a fantastic trip.

The violence that everybody hears about is not directed at foreigners, and North American media paints Mexico to be a dangerous place, but it really is not - just be smart.

As for the work idea that would be an amazing thing to start up, I would definitely use a website like that for IMers when I'm ready to travel again.

Agreed! Guys, let's get back to the point. This thread is not USA vs. Mexico!

I live in the European Union and I'm thinking of moving to the Spanish coast for a few months. There is a nice 2bdr condo with amazing ocean view (in fact, double ocien view because it's on a little split). See pictures below! This one goes for $650 / month (minimum lease is 6 months) and it is located in a "medium" turist area. So it's not the most popular among turists but still many go there. Of course you can get ocean view for as little as $300 / month but that will be a bit in the middle of nowhere.

I don't speak spanish at all, but 6 months would be enough to pick up the basics. If anyone would be interested in sharing an apartment like that, let me know! ;)

Btw, is anyone here living in Las Vegas? I have a dream to live in a high rise by the strip for a few months :) Checked on craigslist, 2 bedrooms go for $2.000+ which is hefty for me but found 1-2 people who were looking for a roomate there for $1k. That is still over my budget, but I wouldn't mind paying it for a few months.

To the people to scared to leave their condos. I have been to some places that "statistically" are dangerous but in reality are perfectly safe but have pockets of the city that nobody enters unless they are meth heads or gangsters.

Do your research and you will find tourist type areas only survive by making sure tourists and travellers are kept safe.
 
Bali have become one of the hot co-working space for many startups due to the cheap standard of living and beautiful scene

I also live in the EU and it has been my plan for a while to find a place in Spain as a second home. I visited Tenerife a couple of years ago and loved it, one day I will retire there. The culture, scenery, food, the carnival, the climate (25C in February), the list could go on... It is cheaper than mainland Spain, and more than 50% cheaper than where I am now. The internet was also really good. Due to the crisis a lot of people have moved abroad looking for work which means plenty of accommodation is available.

I have been self-studying Spanish for the past couple of years and I almost have the grammar down but I still have a long way to go before I am conversational. The verb conjugations are killer. I intend to find a language exchange in Spain because there are plenty of Spanish people who want to learn English.

How did you find that apartment? Is that Formentera? I might be interested. This is a useful site for finding accommodation and roommates, and available in English: google "loquo" (I'm too new here to post links).

I like the idea of a network of contacts to arrange this.
Infact i think someone could make a few quid doing it.

Maybe finding a few flats in cheap but nice places, and advertising them here.

Maybe throw in a tech install too.

That way any client would only need Himself, his clothes, his card and one laptop.

This would be idea if you need to hide from bunny boilers.
 
Try Bulgaria. I live in the south coastal city of Burgas. The cost of living here is the cheapest in EU Europe and you can rent an apartment with sea view from around 150 euros.

I was thinking of writing a PM and I rather post it here, there might be others who would be interested in moving to Spain.

So I have also been thinking of Tenerife but was afraid that it would get boring too quickly because of it's small size. I would move to the southern part because of the weather so Santa cruz is out, and I can only see small villages along the coast. It would definetely be lovely for a couple weeks but usually you need to rent it for 6 months otherwise need to pay much higher monthly fee. And transportation can also be a problem because you can't really bring a car from the mainland to tenerife. (or you might with a ferry but it must cost a lot of money)
But I didn't know that it's cheaper than mainland. I have only been to Madrid and Barcelona in Spain so far and they are quite expensive.

There are holiday rentals as well for short stays and also rooms in shared apartments but not too many.

Where are you from? I'm from Hungary.

I stayed in the north (Puerto de la Cruz) in early February and temps were mid 20's, basking in sun. A little cold in the evening but not freezing like my home country (UK). I visited the south for one day and it was so hot I got burnt within minutes of getting out of my hire car. I read that Tenerife has a constant climate and it never gets much above 30 even in mid summer.

As for boring, I thought about that but I think there's a lot going on. The people who live there are interesting, they have the second largest carnival in the world, lots of latin music, strong ties with South America (lots of Cubans). The streets were packed in Santa Cruz when we went on a night out. Their culture puts a strong emphasis on friends and family. Also, the nature is stunning, several other islands to explore. One other thing I like, they have a liberal attitude towards marijuana.
