How to build a private network?

How would I go about to build a private blog network? Like 100 blogs or so... I don't have any other infrastructure to build good backlinks. What are the chances that I can make good network?
What should I be careful about?
Any tips? How can I rank few of the blogs?

My thinking so far is to start by few blogs with similar names/titles on wordpress/tumbler/blogger/facebook etc and publish stories on all of them of similar content. That way I can sort of create the illusion of BRANDING to the google search engine.

I don't want to buy articles, because so far it hasn't paid off. What alternatives are there to that? Spinner works well? Tips tips tips please

If you're not prepared to invest any money then you are not going to succeed. The two biggest factors are backlinks and content and with 100 blogs, you have no chance without investing in both.

EDIT: You must have edited your original post whilst I was typing. If you have had no success with buying original content, you're not likely to improve the situation by downgrading to spun or copied content.
