Latest Youtube and Google Video Algorithm Changes

Hey,

in the past weeks I've seen some really weird algorithm changes in both YT and G and there was no mention of them here on BHW.

1. - Few weeks ago, Google changed it's algorithm of showing videos. Beyond page 1, there are now rarely any videos being shown. There used to be tons on pages 6 or 7 and 8 etc., now it's mostly just the first page and then nothing. Rest is ommited from search results.

2. - One focked up update, or bug pretty much in Youtube SERPs - Someone stole my video, or copied a big part of it and it instantly replaced my video in YT serps, even without any views or backlinks. I filed copyright complaint, the video got removed and my vid appeared on the exactly same spot instead of the removed video. Like what the fuck is this Youtube?

3. - In the past weeks, I've been having issues with ranking on YT. Views, comments, likes, high PR backlinks, no help (and don't get on me with social signals, they work for 3 days or so, then the video falls off). One of my videos is 5th on Google for the medium competition keyword, while it's on 5th PAGE of Youtube for the same keyword, I've never seen such a difference. It's been 4 days now and no change in SERP whatsoever.

4. Videos started to act really weird on G, this has most likely something to do with Penguin 2.0. Some of my vids, which were sitting on the iron throne for a good few months now dropped 3 - 4 spots, some didn't move at all and some even jumped a one position up. They all have same backlinking profile with both spammy and high PR backlinks.

What is your experience with the latest updates? I know that pretty much all of the views providers had big problems with the latest updates, but I would like to know your experience. I am thinking of not investing into youtube anymore and let the videos run and die on autopilot while earning whatever they can and focus on something else. I'ts somehow getting more random to rank stuff on YT and I don't really like it.

Google's search algos are far more complex. There so many variables that you can check for on a video, that's completely managed on its own video platform.

Things like views, ratings, relevancy, overall engagement, aside from those maybe some smaller indicators but you can only go so deep with Youtube.

its really tough to promote new online business websites after google's new change algorithm as no one is sure which is the perfect method to attract traffic and improve sales

Well I don't really think it's my head, because my traffic dropped like 40% without THAT significant changes in rankings.
Also, the video being ranked on 5th page of Youtube, yet 4th on Google, is absolutely random to me.
But I guess it's about what Imguy said, YT is being random.

Are you sure? how do you know this?

Just from monitoring google whilst doing research and watching what a new video I've been trying to rank does (my first real foray into trying to rank a video in quite a while), I've seen the same thing. You'll see videos on page 1 of G. If you do see any 'em anywhere else, it'll be one video in the 3rd-4th spot of page 3. Other than that, nothing.

I don't know if it's Penguin or what, but there has been A LOT of dancing around with what shows up on page 1 of G. The video I'm trying to rank showed up on page 1 and was only there for a day (figured that was just the dance). There's a pretty solid video that's on page 1 and mine was just under it. Having checked since, that video has fluctuated up and down. As well, other videos on page 1 are random. One day only that video will be page 1. Another day, there'll be 2 other videos on page 1 - all of which are older (it's not like they're new and dancing like mine was.)

I actually went back and looked up a term I used to rank a website for because I wanted to try ranking a video for it. There's been a video in the top 3 for at least the past 6 months or so. Now that video is down to #4, but there are 3 more videos on page 1 for that term - something that G has never done.

I setup a new channel for my new video that I've been mentioning. Sent high retention views and likes to it (but no favorites or channel subs, and comments are turned off). All my on-page is spot on. My backlinking has included a 800+ social bookmark fiverr gig as well as one for likes/+1s/pins/tweet. (This doesn't include other some other backlinks - just ones YT could care about.) Have also posted a few manual comments on other videos.

My YT rankings are all over the place. Sometimes top 3, sometimes 11-15. Been this way for all my KWs. The top ranking videos are changing as well. And there seem to be no real common denominators with them, either. Some are vids with only a few views on huge channels with a lot of subs and vids. Others are on channels with a ton of subs but only 4-5 vids. Some have only a couple vids but a ton of views. No seeming rhyme or reason to it.

I personally think the YT's ranking is very dependent upon the age of the YT uploader and the number of subscribers. I have noticed quite a few video's which rank highly seemingly for no reason until I visit their channel.

I'm just about to roll out a new channel. In the past I've had no problem out ranking vids that are 1-6 years old within a month, using the standard methods and a few extra bits . its been a few months since I've done any youtube vid marketing but I'll see how it all goes

Again today, drops for every video, for every keyword at elast 1 - 4 spots on Google, 10% raised, rest dropped.
No idea why. I was thinking it's because of low anchor diversity, but that is not the case for me.
