Facebook Cloaking - weight watchers pass through

Hi Guys,

I have a quick question about a cloak on FB. I was just browsing ads and found someone that was actually using the weight watchers site as his redirect. I'm curious if anyone has an idea about how this was done?!

The cloak was set up so well that the second time I clicked on the ad, it actually sent me to the weight watchers site instead of his affiliate site as a fail safe.

This seems like a really amazing way to pull in leads to your affiliate site... That is depending on what product you're promoting.

This is pretty easy, I do it in my cloaker but instead of 1 it is 3 (which can be changed). It's pretty simple and a good failsafe if Facebook bots do get past the cloaker.

Using others website for your cloak campaign is very easy and is required. The process goes like this:
1. u need a redirector website, one that will redirect:
- either bots & FB reviewers to the fake website (can be yours or others)
- real visitors to your aff url
2. u need a fake website / or use others

Now, the hard part is getting all FB bots & manual reviewers IP's, moreover, there are patterns to differentiate users from bots & fb reviewers.

blackjack is spot on. FB is very aggressive with new bots coming from outside their FB.com domain ranges. One red flag to reviewers is having the fake destination not look like a landing page. There has to be a call to action on it otherwise a smart reviewer (there are a few) will question the intent of the ad.

Scraping obviously branded content or redirecting to a branded corporate site is dangerous - again, it's a tip off to reviewers if they are paying attention to look a little deeper.

Of course FB wont allow cloaking since it's against their TOS - hence we cloak them successfully
