go to ahrefs.com enter your competitors website and see their backlinks?its a big process and there are many methods and ways to get backlinks. You can go to the link building section and get more ideas?there are also many BSTs that will get you backlinks. Good Luck!

referring domains just means the domains that are linking back to your website (backlinks). In simplest terms, the more referring domains you have to your site, the better. You can find referring domains for your site using backlinks checker like MajesticSEO, ahrefs, open site explorer. Don't wish to link to them so you can search for them in Google yourself. As for your other question about finding blogs, a good way to start is to use dropmylink.com for blogs to comment on for free.
