Subdomains and Affiliate Products

Hey B-Hatters!

I have a quick question. . . . Let's say I have a Clickbank product I wish to promote called "Zillion Dollar Marketing Secrets".

Now, of course, ideally, one of the most effective ways to get link juice and drive traffic to my affiliate offer is to start by buying a domain name called:

www.zilliondollarmarketingsecrets.com

and get hosting for it.

However, what I would like to know is, how effective (SEO-wise) is it to simply set up a subdomain on my existing site called:

http://zilliondollarmarketingsecrets.myregulardomain.com

as opposed to NOT creating a subdomain and simply naming a page on my regular domain called:

http://www.myregulardomain.com/zilliondollarmarketingsecrets.html

Which one has more "juice" in Google's eyes?

IMO I think that the second one will have more value in google's eyes. I have had success with what you mentioned second, in the past and did get some sales........hope I could help.

Wordpress works best in subdomains. What did you use to setup your sites?

i would get a generic domain name like marketsecretsreveals.com and once that domain is in the SERPS, start putting up subdomains

like
shitproduct1.tld.com
shitproduct2.tld.com

So to answer your questions subdomain would be fine, because if your main domain is allready in the serps it wont take long to get your subdomain in there. btw, do you really manage to make money with cb? lol

Yes . . . but not with IM products. I have found (through experience) that IM'ers are too savvy nowadays to buy a CB product through affiliates for the most part . . . simply because they know that they can sign up at CB, buy the product, and get the affiliate commission themselves, thus saving up to 75% on the price of the product. So I have switched to non-IM product promotions and have been doing much better as a result.

What I have learned from several sources in my studies is the following:

1. A subdomain (www.subdomain.originaldomain.com) will be treated by Google for page rank and SERP standing as if it were a new domain entirely separate from the original domain. A backlink to one will not send linkjuice to the other.

2. A subdirectory (www.originaldomain/subdirectory.com) will take linkjuice from backlinks to it and pass it on to the original domain. But banklinks to the original domain will not send linkjuice to the subdirectory (except for a really small bit if the original domains and subdirectory are linked internally, say with navigation or bread-crumb links).

I see very good uses for both subdomains and subdirectories, depending on what you want to do. For instance, if you want to make a vitrine-style home page where all products are listed on it and there is an additional separate page for each product (say for a review or even sales letter), and all products are related in some manner (say they are all from Clickbank), I say go with subdirectories for your individual product pages. (Throw in an articles subdirectory and other content subdirectories for good measure for more linkjuice).

Of course, you do not want to sell Viagra and Bibles in this manner (as an extreme case for illustration). The publicity from one detracts from the other. So you want to make sure the extra publicity from a high SERP ranking serves both products. I say if your products are vastly different and you do not have a megasite structure like Amazon, but instead a more modest kind of site, make a different site for each product type, or at least so that the products relate to each other in some manner.

If you want to set up a download url and make it difficult to find (after doing stuff in robots.txt, chmod, etc), I say go with a subdomain.

Also, subdomains are good for elite or special kinds of places you do not want to mix with your normal publicity for your original domain.

There is more, but that's the gist.

I have seen this information in so many places that I believe it is true. At any rate, that is the way I am using these things so far.

Yes . . . The whole nine yards: Articles, YouTube Vidz, Social Bookmarking, Viral Reports, and Web 2.0 (Social Media) posting for backlinks. However CB is now a very small part of my marketing.

I learned that it is important to be diverse and not "put all of my eggs in one basket". That way I am not in deep sh*t if sales drop in one area or with any particular Affiliate Network.

I have had great results with non IM products on subdomains using the product name (assuming they allow it! webhostingbuzz for example forbids the use of thier name in this manner...so it is good to check) or easier just a keyword.

to further this concept I bought

com-facts.com

hopefully you can see the evil plot at work! I will be putting up 'review' sites which then (hopefully) direct traffic over to the real offer (some even hop directly to the shopping cart)

in a search for product x or a keyword? my site/link will look like:

productx.com-facts.com or say dogtreats.com-facts

on the main domain I will just have mini-reviews with links over to the full page reviews.

some big name marketers are doing this already! Mike Filsaime has com-reviews, so think about heading out to get your own com-???.
