China's environmental situation has been described as "grim" in an annual update on the country's environment released this week. The update by China's Ministry of Environmental Protection said that overall pollution problems were serious last year and reporting on the update, the state-controlled newspaper China Daily said there has been a "marked deterioration in China's air, water and land.

Anyone been to China?

A friend of mine used to be a missionary and went to China and came back with a Wife. I asked her if she would ever go back she told me "No way, are you crazy?"

At that point i felt there must be something i don't know.

Anyone been to China?

yeah life in china is tough, there are some china members here, let them tell us some stories :P
but i guess most of them are sensitive issues to be mentioned here...

Well considering that girls are still 2nd class citizens there they will always say that. I doubt it's just because of pollution that your friends GF wanted to leave.

I have a friend from China. He tells me it stinks there.

From an outsider looking in and all the news that you hear about from tv, it is easy to believe that the whole of china is a shithole and people who live there are idiots who doesn't care for life itself. This is because the NEWS that you hear is never good, when does the news report anything that is good even in your own country?

"From an outsider looking into the USA you also hear the crazy stories about gangsters and gun crimes, crazy politics and Us governement doing whatever they want to protect from weapons of mass destruction! "

I hope you understand what i mean from the above statement...

This is a good doc to watch when you get time, it really opens up your eyes about China.

Just past that after the YouTube domain, for some reason I got a message saying:-

"You are NOT allowed to post URLs, email addresses and images, until after you have been a member of BHW for a little longer."

Not too sure of they're being serious with that one.

I thought China's economy was supposed to take over the world or something like that

china and russia will be as long displayed bad till they open their gates to free money transfers. Why they dont allow it ?So the fed can't buy out a whole country with worthless paper like they did in the beginning of the 90's.

Putin kicked out the USA/Fed from robbering their resources for free and from that time he is being displayed as a tyran where i can say western countries are way more worse

This is the China:

I went to China last year and some parts were very smoggy. But not all parts are very bad. It was still a nice visit and I would go back for sure!

You do realise that China is by far US 's largest creditor, right? :o They have a shitload of that worthless paper - and they didn't get it for free :D

They are the largest foreign creditor, but only #3 overall, the Federal Reserve is #2 and the Social Security Trust is #1.

Yes and their hell smog is creeping into California

I'm afraid most of that is home-grown. Though from time to time as much as 30% is from East Asia.

Car emissions are the majority of the problem. It's because everybody drives their own car, by themselves, long distances, every day, and for their whole lives!
And the public transportation is terrible when compared to the likes of New York... and the we expand out instead of up like NY.

Enough griping - I love the place, it's beautiful, and I don't like seeing it through the lens of smog.
