Do you think "QR codes" are overrated?

It's overrated for me.
But clients sure love them. Just whip up a QR code, scan it using your phone, and show your client how it directs to his fan page/website. Then throw it in as a "freebie". They love it! Just tell them that they can print it on t-shirts, banners, brochures, etc.

not really. QR code is frequently used in my daily life.It is very convinient to get access to other useful info by scanning it.we mey put our personal info in the QR code image to help other to find us.QR code has the capablity to encode so many date that we couldn't remember at a short time.

look at the original post date. it's 2012 and that time indeed QR code was not as popular as nowadays.
I think the next big thing would be NFC (Near Field Communication) chips. There are phones equipped with this technology so that you could simply swipe the phone next to the chip or be in the proximity of the chip in order for a task to be done on the phone.
For instance, I could have a chip on my lamp stand next to the bed so that when I place my phone next to it, the phone will automatically set an alarm clock. A chip could be placed in the car so that I could turn the phone into a navigational device. hahaha I am sorry.
I am sure you guys get the picture. Why turn on the phone then go to an application to then hold it in such a way for it to scan a surface when you can simply swipe the device or be in the proximity of the NFC chip.
