Whats the difference btw a Ping and RSS Feed?

Hi Newbie here,

Can someone be so kind as to explain the difference between a ping and a RSS Feed. Im a little confused because I thought they did the same thing. If I have a blog and I want good ranking and traffic, do I ping or do I put a RSS Feed on it. and if I do both will I run the risk of getting banned from google.

How many times have we heard that? xD

A Ping is when you "remind" search engines that you have updated your blog/website/whatever.

An RSS Feed is where you can subscribe to newly posted information from a blog.

Thanks that clears it up for me..So am I to believe that when it comes to me trying to get traffic and indexing I should be more concerned with the pinging that an RSS Feed?

As I see it, an RSS Feed is more for usability, for your visitors. and ping is for SE
