Kickass Torrents (KAT) Doing Dastardly Deeds!

Upon clicking a particular torrent's Azureus Magnet, suddenly a pop-up appears with a Google Chrome logo on it, telling me that my Chrome (browser) might be out-of-date. So, like any ignorant newb I clicked the "Ok" gotcha button and the file wanted to download. I couldn't decide if I wanted it to download onto my over-crowded desktop or if I should drop it in a folder or what and then it occurred to me that the pop-up window looked funny.

It might be an innocent standard chrome install with an affiliate link, or it might be an infected version of the browser that will do God-knows-what. I know there are a lot of KAT users here, so I thought I'd post the warning.

Thanks for the headsup, but i would cancel the download as soon as i found out that what i am downloading is different than i clicked.This also happens in some file sharing sites.

Well according to the article it's merely the domain that's been seized and not the servers, so the proxies setup to avoid ISP filtering seem to work.

Another quick Google took me here: http://torrentproxies.com/

I used the first proxy on the list for KAT and it seemed to work fine.

PS. I've never used KAT, just letting you know what I found when Googling

Yeah if you take a look at torrentfreak you will see that the domain was seized but they are now back.

Hi id encourage you to use an ad blocker, for example Noscript works great with Firefox
