Simulation Theory Mind Fuck

Your post wasn't abrasive or "rough". It was disappointing.

I don't care about pleasing everyone. On the contrary, I care about logic. And the epitome of logic is science.

I wanted something I could actually reply to.

I can't reply to nuclear physicists either, but it 's not their fault, is it? :o

Re-read my posts.

One time was clearly enough.

Anti-scientific?

Totally anti-scientific. If you have any doubts, start studying the epistemology of science.

You've misconstrued just about everything I said.

So I 'm either an evil genius or you 're arguments were non-scientific to begin with? Not sure what to choose :o

Your post is littered with non sequiturs.

O rly? Point one...

Are we having a debate? or do you just want "get me" online?

Yes, you uncovered me; that 's why I woke up in the morning. To get you online... #fail

You quoted nothing but the subtext. Not any of the points.

You text was repulsive enough, no need to touch the subtext as well :o

Are you sure you don't have a natural anger towards developing basic comprehension skills?

Depends if you count ignorance as such :o

I think that open minded people are those who follow the scientific method and closed minded people are those who don't.

Is this opinion based on a peer reviewed publishing? :)

There are plenty of ways to view the world, all we have are models. Some are more suitable for some purposes than others. If a model is suitable for a purpose, use it. One size does not fit all when viewing the same phenomenon. For example, you can't say you understand a novel because you counted the words, analyzed the character height and style of ink any more than you can understand the universe through measurement alone. Especially when you consider "inches", etc don't exist. They're really at best a useful mental construction.

When you analyze any form of knowledge we have, your realize that when you dig deep enough there's no real foundation besides mental abstraction based upon very limited forms of perception and measurement, it's like driving a car while only being able to see with the rear view mirror.

I'm not saying in any way that science isn't effective, or that it's useless -- on the contrary. Just saying that if humans didn't have eyes, light wouldn't exist to a "rationalist". If we didn't have ears, sound wouldn't exist to a "rationalist". Our interaction with the universe is what makes it "real" to us. Wood is only hard because our skin is soft. It's all relative. If we had different evolutionary sensory adaptations we would be experiencing an entirely new and absolutely surreal world. We can only base our measurements and tools of off-shoots of our own senses, I don't think that we really know as much as we assume

Not at all, that 's why I wrote it - to show ShadeDream that what he (or me) thinks as open minded, does not matter ;) Opinions don't matter, especially opinions on people.

Yes, it 's the primal assumptions (axioms) one has to make. Take any system in formal logic: It will have a language, a set of axioms and rules of inference. Without these, you can't structure anything.

Most Cosmologists and Physicists aren't looking for a designer or a prime mover, and I'm certainly not one of those "The Big Bang happened, but I know who banged it" types. Besides, with the developments in Cosmic Inflation, we very well might be making some astronomically large revisions.

Whoever looks into the causes of effects are ultimately looking for a designer or prime mover, or they've stopped their search too early. Every effect we know has a cause, and this certainly does regress infinitely, with no problem to any logic.

No one knows what banged it, surely. Who implies and assumes far too much to have a chance to look at the idea of a designer on its own merits. That being said, science has helped the idea of design, with its ever-expanding library showing evidence of cosmic order, more than religion ever could. Religion gave the intuition, science is consistently building the proof.

Even if there was never a centralized point of all matter, matter still had an origin. If there was no origin, herein defined to mean the common origin idea of 'something out of nothing,' and everything simply always was or is the result of expansion-compression from previous universes, that doesn't remove the essence of whatever it was that placed everything where it is and ordered it to be continuous and inflating and compressing and moving.

We're not even dealing with questions of purpose or "Why?"s yet to invoke a designer. The notion of everything happening because it just happened that way, all while fitting into an established order, and having this quanta of seeming randomness calculated into that order, should make it difficult to look at everything and with intellectual honesty say "the universe is just winging it with no plan."

Holy shit. I just saw this. Really? Does anything I wrote in this thread give you the slightest indication that I believe in God?

I didn't say God(though you probably do more than many religious people, even if you say you don't. hell, maybe it's because you say you don't lol), I said religion.

You wrote "Using String Theory to prove there's a designer (or team of them) is not any better than any of the Abrahamic religions."

Saying there cannot be a designer is a religious conclusion targeting a narrow definition of design, and is not based in science to any degree. It's putting the cart miles ahead of the horse. That's why.

I was being slightly facetious, because you were throwing around what you thought was science, but it read like bible thumpers and their belief of the Earth existing for ~6000 years.

Scientific terms can be in direct line with the thought process layman religious folk use: keywords and buzzwords without knowing much else of it. Buzzword example: cosmological inflation is close to the idea of multiple heavens, or infinitely extending reality, all of which I can almost guarantee are not properly understood by many self-professed scientific or religious people. With buzzwords, the scientist can think and agree existentially with the most blindly religious person. Think about that, the good and bad in that; intuition and proof, religion and science. The religious know the answer without knowing the process, which is useless, but scientific people know the process without knowing the answer, which is uninspiring. Science needs context, wonderment, awe, to progress, and that comes from understanding and explaining discoveries in a way that naturally makes someone look up at a starry sky and smile. That smile is not at all because of the image of many galaxies in Hubble's Deep Field(though some just like da pretty colors), but because of what that image's content means to them, humanity, human thought, connection to what simpler people dreamt about, and all that kind of qualitative stuff that helps inspire scientists to become scientists to discover and create the quantatative stuff(read: boring science work leading to awesome stuff) that feeds more spiritually oriented minds into becoming better than what they are. Science creates a more exact picture of God for the religious, it frees them from bondage.

When you look up at the sky and feel unexplicable wonder, it's the same exact feeling as a religious nut. Everything you have and know is everything they are missing, and everything they have and know is what you are missing; starcrossed lovers and all.

Further, just because someone uses scientific terms does not make them appear any less religious in my eyes until i hear the rest of what they believe. But that might take a while.

People come from the sky and the earth --- Was I just religious or scientific?

P.S. I may be against atheism in debate, but one thing for damn sure they do is fight to keep church and state separated. The Church is not The Religion, it's a politi...you know the rest. Sorry this post expanded on a lot of stuff, i was trying to keep it so short and concise :\ I cut off many paragraphs, but they were touchy-feely warm athesit-theist friendship sing-alongs.

That being said, science has helped the idea of design, with its ever-expanding library showing evidence of cosmic order, more than religion ever could. Religion gave the intuition, science is consistently building the proof.

I 'm not sure how you see science proves a designer. Do you consider for example the evolution theory as a proof of God? :D

Even more importantly, science isn't suited to prove or disprove the existence of God for one core reason - it is confined within logic and a designer by definition is above and beyond logic. Anyone attempting to prove or disprove the existence of God via science is wasting his time.

Although these are a bit old news. Here is another view on how the universe works:

http://phys.org/news/2012-05-black-hole-universe-physicist-solution.html

Einstein made some assumptions while deriving his General Relativity, lifting some of those leads to equations that explain dark energy in terms of space-time itself. Moreover, as Nikodem Poplawski claims it suggest we might be living in a black hole, past the event horizon.

I'm god, and I created the universe and everything contained within it just 10 seconds ago.

No point in trying to prove me wrong, any evidence you present will simply be written off as the will of the designer (me!).

Evolution is certainly evidence of design, why would it be not?

Science is the only tool that can touch God and has been used to prove God exists.

Before being against the idea, one must define God, and that definition can take so many different meanings from "nature" to "supernatural" to "pre-nature" to something more, but let's stay simple for now. So, God's either something of the universe, the universe itself, above the universe, or what caused the universe. Ok. Why not all of them? Ok, that's a little over-encompassing and overpowered concept...I mean...EVERYTHING? It's almost like that thing is...God...oh...

There is nothing supernatural in the minds of those who created the religions, they were just very keen observers. "Build a campfire, and it keeps you warm. Big light in the sky, it keeps us warm. Campfire gives life, big light in sky gives life. Campfires from far away look like dots of light in night sky, maybe dots of light in night sky are campfires very far away. ...Big light in day sky is big campfire too...Great campfire even! Biggest campfire! When it here, it give food and warm. When gone, cold and pain. Why this? Great campfire no like us? No like us because we bad? Great campfire come, then go away, like our family. like life. Great campfire....great campfire burns out like our little campfires?...Great campfire sacrificing for us?...We must thank Great campfire." ...and then their followers killed each other because some think the campfire is a person like them, and others think it's just a campfire, but the effect of that ball in the sky is the exact same to all parties involved.

The first ones to study anatomy were:
-Hunters, for meat
-Combat Medics, for triage
-Priests, who had to embalm so many bodies, they logically created a map of the body.

Science is much more than the method of observing and testing, and you absolutely right that the concept of design is above human intellect, but not logic. In this light, we can say God is what can explain and reconcile all paradoxes, and place it within a logic we can understand. We can speculate and investigate back in time only so far ourselves, but we can make tools like we have throughout our history to make sense of data we cannot interpret ourselves(spectrometers!).

The idea of God being illogical is a conclusion that is not scientific. The idea of God being outside of logic is illogical itself, because God cannot be that which doesn't make sense if a commonly shared idea of God, by believers and non, is that God creates order, which does make sense.

I challenge any of you, to yourselves, with all your study, to make up a being/law of nature/something more primordial even that is the ultimate source and cause of things that you yourself cannot disprove, and then tell me God isn't compatible with science and several major earthly religions and philosophies. Create an idea of divinity even you cannot disprove. Challenge your atheism to it's scientific core.

I'll stop believing in God once science shows me I should, and all it's done is show me the opposite.

Evolution is certainly evidence of design, why would it be not?

Science is the only tool that can touch God and has been used to prove God exists.

????

Before being against the idea, one must define God

Here 's a definition: the creator and controller of everything ever.

The idea of God being illogical is a conclusion that is not scientific.

?? It 's by definition - if God is the creator and controller of everything, he can't be bound inside his constructs. Thus he is outside and above logic, ergo science.

The idea of God being outside of logic is illogical itself, because God cannot be that which doesn't make sense if a commonly shared idea of God, by believers and non, is that God creates order, which does make sense.

Do you realise that you are saying that God has to be whatever a majority vote of his believers think he should be? :D Not much of a God eh?

I'll stop believing in God once science shows me I should, and all it's done is show me the opposite.

This will never happen for the reasons I mentioned before. That 's why it 's called belief -> you buy it without any proof required.

I'm god, and I created the universe and everything contained within it just 10 seconds ago.

No point in trying to prove me wrong, any evidence you present will simply be written off as the will of the designer (me!).

No you are not because I am and it was my will that you just wrote that.

Why is evolution not a possible aspect of design? Is it because it implies things aren't created perfectly? Neither does design.

Science is the only tool that can touch God,*added* but faith is what helps people see and keep seeing and make it a part of their day-to-day.(these were just tidbits, but you get it)

Here 's a definition: the creator and controller of everything ever.

Does science really not think this is possible, when it tries to unify all theories?

?? It 's by definition - if God is the creator and controller of everything, he can't be bound inside his constructs. Thus he is outside and above logic, ergo science.

God creates and controls everything. Read your definition: the creator and controller of everything. In your definition, God can do what you're now saying God can't.

Also, at least use God instead of "he," or something.

Do you realise that you are saying that God has to be whatever a majority vote of his believers think he should be? :D Not much of a God eh?

There is no vote, that's why God is compatible with science.

The reason God and science are compatible, as I've said this many times, is that God supercedes belief. God exists whether or not there is belief. If it requires belief, it is not God. Think about it: The Supreme can be washed away because you don't "believe?" That isn't much of a God. We're dealing with power.

This will never happen for the reasons I mentioned before. That 's why it 's called belief -> you buy it without any proof required.

Again, a belief. You cannot believe in God any more than a prayer can act as a petition to God(that we know of, but some have seen other evidence, so people pray through faith).

What is undeniable in the universe to you? If it's logical, it's also undeniable to others. There you will find God, not in what people think or believe, but what do you know is undeniable? What power overwhelms your life? Create a God you yourself cannot disprove.

There's so much poor logic being thrown around pretty much everywhere in this thread...

The video sounds like a bunch of drunk (or high) dudes talking about topics they know little about.

I hate when people try to merge philosophy and physics.

Why is evolution not a possible aspect of design? Is it because it implies things aren't created perfectly? Neither does design.

No, it 's because it explains how things evolved without requiring a designer who guides everything in his infinite wisdom. Obvious, no?

Does science really not think this is possible, when it tries to unify all theories?

???? :o

God creates and controls everything. Read your definition: the creator and controller of everything. In your definition, God can do what you're now saying God can't.

Wrong. Based on my definition, I can argue that he can do it in a way not bound by logic (and thus my understanding).

Also, at least use God instead of "he," or something.

Convenience.

There is no vote, that's why God is compatible with science.

Are you saying that science is a voting process? :)

The reason God and science are compatible, as I've said this many times, is that God supercedes belief. God exists whether or not there is belief. If it requires belief, it is not God. Take a fish in a tank and my pair of balls. My balls exist, the fish in the tank exists, yet it can never reach my balls for it is limited. The fish can only function within the water.

Replace with God and science and logic as needed :)

What is undeniable in the universe to you?

Nothing. There 's no formal system without axioms.

Create a God you yourself cannot disprove.

If I can't disprove it, it only means I do not have the capacity to do, not that it exists. For as I said, there is no formal system without axioms. Find one, then we can talk about it.

There's so much poor logic being thrown around pretty much everywhere in this thread...

So address it directly, becuase just saying that and leaving it is even worse logic, and it's heat waste.

I hate when people try to merge philosophy and physics.

-_________- The first students of physics were philosophers. Have...Have you even read books? This post, I can't even....

@LakeForest

I would cease all argument with jazzc. He's clearly overflowing with logic and argumentative prowess: and he's apparently never wrong! He keeps pounding the logic pulpit, but then still attacks even the compliments I gave him, which leads me to believe he reviewed my posts looking for nothing more than "opportunities" to rebuke whatever it was he thought he was rebuking. I'm not sure what the point of anything he wrote even was. He responds to compliment and criticism exactly the same way. He's a special guy for sure, but don't waste your time trying to argue with him. Besides, I'm pretty sure if you gave this guy an enema he could be buried in a matchbox.

Just when I think the lot of you are neurotic, unthinking clowns...

My input: Why not emulate in our own lives, to the fullest extent possible, what any proposed unmoved mover might be capable? Does such a proposal not yield more 'answers' than it does unanswerable questions?

Do we want to we right; or, do we want to live...?

No, it 's because it explains how things evolved without requiring a designer who guides everything in his infinite wisdom. Obvious, no?

Really? To you it really explains no designer? The environment itself doesn't design what being will survive in it and not? We're not even going to supernature in any regard, we're talking about the color of tree bark and the color of squirrels that will be in the area. The squirrels don't choose to be that color, they survive because of it.

Yeah, the ability to adapt sure seems like it just kind of showed up unannounced, with no rhyme or reason. No design to that at all, no conservation of energy.

See? Science itself is looking for the Source. Undeniable.

Wrong. Based on my definition, I can argue that he can do it in a way not bound by logic (and thus my understanding).

No, you can't argue that, because in statistics, thus logic, Everything means EVERYTHING. You don't get to pick and choose. The set that includes all sets does also include itself. Reconcile that paradox.

I guess you need to define God better to mean "everything, unless i think something can't fit into the everything"

Convenience.

Conditioning.

Are you saying that science is a voting process? :)

Nope, the exact opposite, which is why science is compatible with God.

Here's the quote again, so you can be sure you're reading what I'm writing:

"
Do you realise that you are saying that God has to be whatever a majority vote of his believers think he should be? :D Not much of a God eh?

There is no vote, that's why God is compatible with science.

Think about it: The Supreme can be washed away because you don't "believe?" That isn't much of a God. We're dealing with power. "

Said this three times already. Science is not up to vote, and neither can the identity of God, so what is the only possible way to approach God? Through science.

Take a fish in a tank and my pair of balls. My balls exist, the fish in the tank exists, yet it can never reach my balls for it is limited. The fish can only function within the water.

Replace with God and science and logic as needed :)

Oh please, look at my previous response. You are distance God and science, not those ideas themselves.

To say it can't touch your balls is lacking a grasp of reality and imagination. Terrible example.

Nothing. There 's no formal system without axioms.

Ok, I think you use that word without understanding it.

Um, you seriously think there's nothing standing firm in the universe? Because that's what you're saying: There are no laws of physics or anything of that nature. There is no time. There isn't even relativity.

I'll let it pass because it's the weekend, but, to you, "There 's no formal system without axioms," is your axiom. That's what you hold undeniable.

lol "nothing," come on now.

If I can't disprove it, it only means I do not have the capacity to do, not that it exists. For as I said, there is no formal system without axioms. Find one, then we can talk about it.

If one cannot disprove it, with all their study, then one cannot comment on its validity or lack thereof, no? That's pretty axiomatic, if I do say so myself.

Anyone can create some idea of God and pick away parts of it that are the most illogical, but there will always be something left over. Think of a universal design you yourself cannot disprove.

You're trying to get rid of it, but the axiom I've been repeating is "God exists and it is valid to approach that with science more than any other tool." That has yet to be challenged on any level, and if you look at our exchange, I've answered far more than has been questioned, and with a near complete reconciliation of any counter-view.

@LakeForest

I would cease all argument with jazzc.

Arguing with Jazz is an exercise in futility, mate: he debates as if he were programming: as if there are absolute values that simply need to be 'plugged-in' and will therefore issue an equivalently absolute, predictable result. When this does not happen, it conflicts: you find yourself defending positions you've not actually taken; correcting accusations of formal fallacies not actually made.

That said, he's an awesome dood. You won't find him wavouring. Such men are rare and ought to be appreciated, therefore. Consider him as a means by which to 'test your chops'.

He doesn't mind.
