New twist to an old method (for me, anyway)

I've not seen anything EXACTLY like this on here, so I thought I'd share.

So I just got home from my day job, and my phone rings. It was "unavailable" on Caller ID.

I answer, and the heavily accented guy on the other end (I live in mainland US) tells me "that his internet security company has been monitoring my computer for a long time" and that "Was I aware that large amounts of data were being hacked from my computer for awhile now, and even right now as we speak?"

I really wanted to see where he was going with this, because I'm always up for learning a new tactic or sales pitch. I replied, "No?!", meaning "No, I didn't know". Apparently, he took it as "No" sale, and promptly hung up on me. Drat. I really wanted to hear what he had to say.

Anyway, I imagine he would have tried to scare me into buying his company's software for $99 or something and install it on my computer. Maybe even online while I was on the phone with him. If I had to guess, this security software would also install some ad fraud software, or use my computer for DDOS attacks.

Long story short, he'd be getting money from me as well as money on the back end for installing the virus. Not a bad method, I don't think. Anyway, I have no intention of using this, It's WAY blackhat for me but maybe it can be cleaned up a little and still be a usable for someone. Anyone care to put some kind of spin on this and share ideas?

It's scam, this is how they would go about it:

They would ask you to take a look at several diagnostic tools available on Windows 7, Vista or XP. It would show several red X marks and there is no chance to make all green ticks (yes, I know that it's impossible )

Then they would tell you to access some folders which are primarily for temporary files and what not and they all have weird names like Xhvgvulohdd.dat, etc ... he would tell you that you got a lot of crappy files which are viruses.

Then he would tell you to install teamview and then would fix your computer for $250.

This was posted on MalwareBytes Anti Malware blog but I cannot get the link to it as the blog is down.

Yeah this could work especially if you could tie it to prisma, and other government monitoring.

Yes definitely scam. In china, every year millions of people lost billions of money in this way, just because someguy has some "method" which these "stupid" people never know(some even dont know the internet, of course they dont have informations). this is not the method.

I think many black hat techniques are ethical. Who the hell is google (or any other self important entity) to decide on a damn ethical standard? Sane "black hat" does not have to be unethical.

Thanks, I knew it was a scam, but didn't know exactly how, and had never heard of that blog

Ok, bad choice of words--it IS a scam, lol. I guess the "method" of how the scammer scams is what intrigued me, which is why I was looking for ways to "clean" it up a little. Thanks everyone!

Nice little twist: next time he calls, ask his name, get his companyname and take him and his securitycompany to court for breaking in to your computer and monitoring your traffic.
