My first checks were from CPA advertising but seeing as how I was just breaking even with advertising costs I guess you wouldn't really call that "making" money. My first free money was from adsense in an obscure low-volume niche with $1 clicks. But on account of the low volume that was never especially lucrative, but definitely less stressful than the paid campaigns. Now I'm almost entirely monetized through affiliate programs (through networks and private programs). That's the way to go. And making your product is good too if you are an expert (or know one to partner with) in a particular field.
I first earned online in the late 90s when Ebay was still fairly new. I was in middleschool and pokemon was hugely popular with people my age. I would buy boxes of pokemon cards then sell them individually on ebay for large markups.

The very first money I earned was back in 2008 with Clickbank and free blogs. I earned $100 here and there, but my first real money was from flipping sites, I used to flip them for $3000-$10000+ a website.
