The real problem is, the public has been subjected to BOTH the carrot (Huxley), and the stick (Orwell). In order to be controlled, the public has been gulled by the infliction of pain either by our fear or hate of it, AND by trivializing our minds through love of pleasure.

WTF was that????

Two alternative future scifi books from the past describing future events in their books.

I thought it was worth pointing it out with all of the parallels of what's going on in the US right now. We're obsessed with entertainment while our government does what it wants.

Someone posted this not too long ago. Pretty cool comparison and makes a lot of sense. Though then again who knows...

The thing that happens all the time is that we trade in quality for convenience or security for convenience.

What bothers me is that in order to use the services that I like, my privacy is being compromised and there is nothing I can do but fully trust my government (and that of other countries) to keep my data safe for eternity. I have to assume that their databases will never get hacked and that the people responsible will not use it irresponsibly. That's naive in my opinion.

The irrelevant stream of information doesn't bother me that much because I decide what I watch, that's what's so great about the internet. One could say that it is harmful as people don't bother to inform themselves properly on a subject but rather just repeat what someone tweeted or some website wrote. But that's a commercially driven society for you, I have no problem with.
