Get up, make a coffee, drop it on laptop. Brilliant! Keyboard doesnt work after drying it out for 9 hours either so will have to get it fixed.

Rant over! Peace!

I hear only noobs (for the lack of a better less offensive word) spill shit on their keyboards. :)

or... one could simply not have drinks near the machine.
radical, but effective.

That's why I drink coffee before approaching the laptop. :D
Additionally you've just learned the hard way a new reason why it is so important to clearly separate work from breaks.

Its never happened before i just clipped it with my hand as i went to get the laptop. Badtimes! Luckily i have a couple more but that was my main one so will see if i can get it sorted!

I hear Starbucks give a free coffee when folks do that...

Sipping on coffee while working is actually quite a nice thing to do, you should try it.

Good point, but not for the first coffee of the day when you're not fully awaken. Look at what happened to OP's laptop! :D

Dont drink coffee..get MONSTER Energy drink...way better than coffee!

Low what a spammy theme :D The trick is to keep everything between the space formed from your arms and the keyboard. This is the safest place i've tried all the other methods that dont work :)

Aww, not cool.

Drink the first coffee in the morning (while in a "coma") in the kitchen, go smoke a cig and then get more coffee and start working/whatever you're doing.

That's why I use an Lenovo X220. I had a waiter at a restaurant knock a glass of carrot juice over it. You should have seen their faces when I washed the keyboard through with 3 glasses of water...

Why didn't you put the keyboard in the oven to dry it sooner?

Keyboards are cheap ($10) and easy to replace yourself. Two screws, two cables and that's that. Find the cheapest computer parts on eBay.

I had this really nice keyboard that was all ergonomic and shit... It was angled down, so your wrists would be high and your hands would be at a decline. Sounds weird, but it was the most comfortable keyboard I ever used. Only problem was, if you spilled one drop of liquid on it, it would be destroyed. I later found out that this is because the circuit boards are right under the keys; there is no plastic layer like on a normal keyboard which keeps the water out! What a shitty design. I kept buying them for a while because it was so comfortable, I felt it was worth it to replace it when it got ruined.

I also spilled a Manhattan on my wireless router once. Internet was out for a while.
