So yesterday I ate at a sandwich shop downtown. Not a chain, but a bit fancier than a mom and pop shop. I had ZERO intentions of talking business. I ate and took my bill to the counter to pay and there were business cards of the restaurant operator. I grabbed one and the guy I was paying asked me if I enjoyed the meal. I said yes, and he said he was the guy on the card. LIGHTBULB. I told him I enjoyed the meal etc. I told him I would leave him a great review. He was happy about that and mentioned they were somewhat new. I asked if he was all set up on Google Local, Maps, Etc. He said no... I told him he should make sure he has a review portal set up. We got to talking about that and set up a meeting for this afternoon. I just got back from that meeting. No longer than 30 minutes and he was in. I showed him a mock up his review portal, and a mock up cards with QR code. I also will be setting up his Maps, etc. I got him for $1,500 up front and $799 a month for 6 months.

Long story short:

Eat at restaraunt
Talk to manager and say you will leave a review
Ask if they are on Google plus, yelp ,etc
Tell them about review portals and online reputation
Give them your business card and say you can help

Give it a shot! Even if nothing more comes out of it. 10 bucks to eat and maybe get a lead is worth it!

Nice. Got me thinking.
Every person is a potential client if not a potential sales person.
Tell them about a incentive like 10% of any sale they refer you.
Lots of people will get you leads for literally no work.

What intrigues me is that I can do research locally and find restaurants that are either not set up for local or have miserable reviews. Then make a list and visit these restaurants throughout the week. It's a great way to talk to a manager/owner, because they think of you as a customer first and not a salesperson.

I'm quite literally amazed that a sandwich shop would spend $799/month going online. Good job, but will it last do you think?

Very inspiring! I'm also quite pleased about the price he's willing to invest but that just proves to me it can be done. We have to remember not to undercut ourselves because we are professionals and we invested time and money in our knowledge and skills and we should be paid accordingly. We provide great services to these clients and they get a lot in return (also a form of recurring income for them => online exposure = great customer potential). This idea has also been in my mind lately and I always doubt myself about whether or not they would be willing to pay what I ask. Apparantly we should all be thinking less and doing more. ;)

Great work, now you should pitch that to every business owner in the area, and see what sticks. + rep for working on your lunch brake.

I do this all the time. LOL My friends are always like WTF? I have an issue with asking for the kind of money for such services idk why. I've been struggling to find something to specific to offer to my clients and choosing a price.

I always try and get a read for what a potential client can afford. His location means he's able to afford high rent. He's down the street from an arena. Plus if I can have him coming showing up for "sandwich shop city name" etc. he will see the see the value. I've offered the same service for less and the same service for more. I think also the fact that his place is relatively new helps. He probably wants to feel like be is doing everything in his power to be successful.

That is a great start up. With 6 months locked in contract, you can:

1. Build relation between you and the customer which in return build trust.
2. Sell new service that will benefits and help increase his business. (Don't try to force him to take it, make in a way to having will will help increase potentially)
3. Repeat your service.
4. (optional) Grab some freelancer to do boring or set up work once of start to get more clients.

Best,

Chungy

As long as he brings them good results and maintains the relationship, they'll be customers for life.

So if the store makes $2 from every sold meal thats like 10-20 customers you have to bring him each day from the net just so he can pay you i hope you can do this quICK because he seems to be a cool guy from your "story" :)

This is really what should be the standard "sales method" if you spend money somewhere, you should be able to do business. Its like your paying for a new client.

there's so many business you can do this with. doctors, lawyers. hit em up hit em up

That's huge, if you do a good job eat at his place often, you never know when he will be talking to another business owner and be like "Hey you see that guy over there? He did an awesome job getting us some reviews and into Google. I thought it was hard but he makes it seem simple, aren't you starting a restaurant soon? You hold talk to him." {Guy walks over and you have an instant client}

Something similar happened to me but with highlight videos.

Exactly. The guy is going to have to sell a lot of sandwiches to cover this bill. Some business owners have more money than sense....
