I remember that a while ago, I was hired to research/write phrases for Tweeter. You know, the inspirational/motivational type.

I was wondering now that I'm promoting my own site, in addition to the content of my blogs and news, is it a good idea to do this type of phrases too? And if so, how often, like once a day?

It depends. If your blog is something you are promoting for the long term and want to build an authority site, you should only really be publishing quotes and phrases you truly believe in rather than just random quotes to try and get followers/retweets. However if this is purely a short term project, quotes can be great tweets to build up some followers through retweets etc.

Also, try to tweet quotes that sound somewhat controversial and avoid stereotypical quotes from people like Thomas Edison etc. Your goal should be to generate as much buzz as possible.

Yes, quotes would be relevant to the topic, not random quotes. I will write some of them myself. I like your idea of making them controversial, although that means they will have to be approved by my partner who is somewhat of a chicken.

You'll need to collect targeted followers though for your account. Tweeting into open air isn't going to do much for you. SEO impact on link in tweet is minimal unless that thing takes off and goes viral (again you need lots of targeted followers) or some services to reTweet your tweets.

You can start here:

to monitor and engage other Twitter users in your niche to gain your targeted base.

and/or look into some automation tools.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

Another question. How often should I tweet? I was thinking once a day.

I do suggest 2-3 tweets a day if you are just advertising. More if you are getting involved with the conversation.

It's a bit hard to come up with 2-3 tweets a day that are original and relevant to the topic of the product I'm promoting. I will try. Right now, I'm posting once a day and I have material for 2 months, but I'll try to come up with more and follow your advice.
