wordpress - written by drunken monkeys during a scientific experiment conducted by CIA. it is:
Cons:
- extremely bloated for what it does
- lacks even the most basic optimization (hint : look at the DB schema)
- slow as fuck. for what it does out of the box it should be 100 times faster and it could be but was coded by drunken monkeys.
- insecure. you can find an exploit for dozens of plugins or even for the core
- has footprints and it has loads of them so u get tons of spam and possibly hacker attacks
- most plugins and/or themes are coded by monkeys on LSD (part of an alien experiment). translation: any idot codes plugins fo it because is simple to learn to do it so they do a crappy job in terms of performance and architecture
Pros:
- very popular, you can easily setup a rather basic site without knowing how to code
- relatively easy to learn it's API compared to others
- flexible enough for most cases even advanced ones, however the more complex you go the slower it gets
Drupal:
Cons:
- hard to learn
- very hard to master
- cumbersome to manage a drupal site in comparison to a WP site or Joomla
- so powerful that it is slow for simple sites (as in slower than it should be) but there's no way around it if u want that power.
- no nice themes and not as many
- makes almost no sense to use it if you dont do custom coding for it
- personally i find it usable only with a decent VPS or dedicated server bc it is rather slow
Pros:
- gorgeous architecture for such a huge app. hats off to the devs and contributors
- plugins are well coded in most cases. coders of both the core and the plugins are more skilled than WP users generally speaking and they integrate everything rather nicely.
- more tied togheter community than WP - they will combine projects and work togheter if it makes more sense as opposed to what happens to WP plugin devs.
- "distros" for various needs
- significantly more SEO friendly than WP out of the box and also in terms of potential
- significantly fewer footprints and most can be eliminated easily
joomla: i have extremely limited experience with it but personally what i can say is not worth it - either go for Drupal or WP
Best choice: custom coded stuff!
there are times when i use WP becausei need a blog-style or magazine style site. it's easy and fast to deploy and im ok with it. however I won't try to turn a piece of crap into a diamond - you simply cant. for custom requirements i do custom coding. that means all spam/bh platforms i have are custom coded.
If u really choose to go for WP then I recommend you to read and implement the stuff in
WordPress security book written by the dude behind VPSBible. Will significantly reduce your comment spam and chances to get hacked.
Also for seo related info and WP, read my in-depth guide on the topic (you probably want to read it even if you dont use WP):
