There are two types of redirection:
301 Redirection - If you have some important page on your website and want to all your visitors to land on that page you can do this redirection but this is applicable if you willing to do temporally. That's why 301 Temporary direction.
302 Redirection - Same as above but this is permanent redirection. If your domain has any issue or want to move to new domain this is useful.

Isn't it the other way around?
301 Redirection is the permanent redirection which passes link juice.
302 is the temporary one.
