Their main goal is to increase the post counts to look more popular/legit. Some of them keep posting crap even if they don't know what they're talking about.

I wonder what mods are doing. No offence to them, we know they are doing a great job here, but expect approving BST's and issue bans i cant see what else they are doing (maybe im wrong). They should filter somehow these comments and also filter members too. Bryanon point is good, now lets see what mods can do about that.

Mods are actually doing a very decent job - and the majority of it is not approving BST threads and issuing bans. The reason why people don't "see mods in action" is because they're not supposed to. If a spam-thread is deleted quickly then there is no evidence of it left on the forum, meaning that unless you managed to see the thread at first when it was posted, and then later notice that it's gone, there's no way for you to know that a moderator has deleted it.

I lack the stats but based on my observations, the number of moderating actions done daily on this forum is massive.

And I'm sure that if something discussed in this thread would be turned into a rule, mods would have no issues enforcing it. Or it could be done in a clever way (e.g. what streetballs suggested above) which would require no mod interaction.

Yeah like i said, maybe im wrong (and i was). I also know we are not suppose to see what they are doing. Still this matter is in their hands, only they can do something.

It aggravates me also Bryanon. Post count is an issue, but I also think in the worse cases it could be 1 guy managing all of these accounts (against TOS) and building them into higher post counts from some other ulterior motif to be cashed in on in the future or used to bump his threads. I believe it is against the rules already to post short, thoughtless statements for the sake of increasing your post count but seems to be rather lightly enforced atm.

edit: A solution may be to only add to the post count if word count is "x" or higher

Yeah I gathered that. I also agree that low post members repeating what has also been said is pointless. When I search for something, I, on average, and if possible, look for what established members have to say with regards to my search, so I understand your point.

However, my point about them not reading the already existing replies still stands. This could be due to laziness, whether or not they're busy, or just to increase their post count.

Established member or not this is a bullshit excuse IMO. It's understandable that people don't have time to read certain posts but looking at that specific thread most of the posts are very short and it's hard not to notice the word "flippa". You have to scroll through it anyway and unless you're not looking at the screen it would be hard not to notice "flippa" being mentioned.

That's whom I'm referring to in that pic. He simply merged the suggestions from the above 2 posters. I reported the post on that day itself but no action is taken yet.

One thing that no-ones mentioned is how people actually read forums that may be causing this.

I go to the home page and open each thread I want to read in a new tab - sometimes I'll make a coffee or take a long call before getting to the end of the ones I've opened. So in some cases it may be well over an hour between when I open the thread and when I type a reply. For example I have 4 threads open at the moment.

I totally agree with you bryanon, it is really annoying especially when Method is posted, all these comments are posted without any needs and it takes ages to read a nonsense comment over and over again, also the bad thing is multitple questining i understand that sometimes its hard to read all threw thread when it has like 400 posts to find out the answer you need, but when Why the SEARCH button was made? So out of 400 posts it might be only 100 with a different questions if all members could stick to these simple rules, we could find everything faster, read less and take more aciton.

Agree with this. Unfortunately without proper changes (i.e steelballs idea) we cannot stop the whole wave of newbies coming to the site and making threads similar to "Im desperate, please help".

If a newbie was allowed to send PM's from day one but if they did not contribute 15 posts in the first 60 days that priveledge was suspended I think it would help. The new guy rushes to make the quota in a few days or a week and he contributes little. I was guilty of it myself.

Even as a new poster myself, I would say this is a better strategy; it ensures useless posts aren't made, whilst also requiring a commitment to contribute to this site from new users.

The problem is not only with newbies, I see established users with more than 2000 posts bumping a 3 year old tooting their sales pitch. WTF? They must have at least learnt by now how to view the OP date. Behind the scenes, the mods are doing their best keeping the forum clean; but maybe the forum has grown too big and the Mod's are not able to tend to each and every incident report. As for some of the new blood of BHW posting whores, No comments!

I can't agree more, this is not only annoying to see, but also makes everyone waste more time skimming through all of the replies to have a chance to find some more useful info, and these crappy posts dilutes the overall quality of posted content.

Additionally, such posts are sometimes made on totally outdated thread (like 6months, or 1-2-3 years+), bumping them to the top and attracting other people to restart more useless discussions.

I would also suggest that OPs, as they are often the ones who monitor their threads the most, take a second to click the button to close their own thread once they have got a satisfying answer and can reasonably think that nothing more can or needs to be added to the discussion.
This feature is totally overlooked IMO (and I'm pretty sure most user don't even know it exists!)

It is not a mod thing, it would rather require people to be educated to use this feature and take this extra step (clicking one button, wow!), but it will prevent such useless additional posts.

It is a fair point. I am guilty of doing it in the past Im sure.

I think the main reason noobs do it is so they can get to a certain post level. Its a testiment to the forum that everyone is so keen to better themselves here (to many forums where people are so eager).

BUT obviously its a problem if people are posting stuff that is really detrimental to the forum.

I guess we do need some way to keep up the quality of posts, steelballs idea makes sense.
Alternatively, maybe it would be worth lengthening the time requirements for certain privileges - ie if only post count stops you from being able to do certain things, thats going to fuel junk posts, but if it was mainly a time restraint, then people would have no way to overcome it, and thus would not be so worried about increasing post count.
