My website keeps going from the 1st page or google to the 2nd for my keyword. It's a small and local niche but my goal is to be #1. I have not really dont any backlinking and some of my competitors have 200+ backlinks. Let's say I use XRumer or spam backlinks another way, could that actually hurt my SEO? Will it be a red flag to google? Would I be better off making 5 AMAZING backlinks or 5000 random ones? Thanks

5 Amazing backlinks always trumps spam backlinks in my opinion.
Plus, I don't think its wise to get get 5,000-10,000 backlinks in a niche where the number 1 site has 100-200 backlinks. Of course, every niche is different and some people may disagree, but I think it's best to beat your competitor's with quality links rather than quantity of links.

Just don't listen anymore to this people nonsense, they think they know SEO but they never actually tried anything. Try to blast your website with 100 000 xrumer links right after registration and see what happends. And this is not applied just to a single niche, it's applied to any niche.
No offense, but do any of you guys even bother to spend 10 minutes reading posts on this forum or just blindly post with the questions?

Xrumer Yak thuuuuu . don't link your backlink with your money site. otherwise you could penalize by google. Check out one of my thread "google webmaster message" the title may be. What google send me. so be careful man before using it.

for long term results just do this.
1. build 10 web 2.0 blogs with unique articles in each
2. build 10 high PR social bookmarks
3. build 20 high PR niche relevant blog comments (PR4+)
and then you can use xrumer to blast to tier 1 and get the links indexed. from what you have said you keyword is really easy to rank so you shouldn't need much

Would Investing in a reputable SEO service from the BHW Buy/Sell Service section be out of the picture?
You would remove the guessing out of the Ranking equation, plus if you purchase one with reports included, you will get a nice idea of HOW he did it, so you may learn and repeat something similar yourself
