cancel the order on ebay ,and pay it via paypal directly .
seems easy enough, any tips on how I would convince the buyer to do that and not report me instead?

eBay has a serious TOS about selling out of their website also buyers are not likely to buy out of eBay, because if they do that they automatically lost a refund option (Open a case solution) if item is broken or not sent to a buyer. So buyer having more negative than positive factors buying outside eBay. After reporting and eBay rechecks the report if it approves, you will get your account blocked. Not really sure if it is worth doing it, as you dont know how buyer acts if you offer such opportunity.
Use cartmanager and link up your paypal or merchant account to it. It will send an automatic invoice after the listing is over to their email address. Put in the description that an invoice will be emailed to the buyer or for the buyer to contact you after the auction is over for payment instructions. I have done this before and the buyers were fine with it.
well I was thinking of making the listing as long as possible and leaving an obfuscated email address in the description and hope that a bidder may email me wanting to buy early; but I probably won't try this at all if it's too risky. I just hate waiting for my funds to be cleared; I'm pretty much fed up with paypal and ebay when it comes to their temporary holds.
Ok I'm going to try this; but isn't there a chance the buyer will just use the ebay checkout and ignore my invoice?
They have done this before, but what I do is add a email address in the paypal payment method that is not signed up for Paypal. This will then leave the payment unclaimed to which the buyer can actually see for themselves when they go their paypal. So I believe this will then prevent the buyer from using the eBay checkout since he or she already completed the transaction. I remember at times buyers told me they couldn't pay since the transaction was considered reversed or cancelled once they cancelled the unclaim payment.
