Hi Guys,

While its still too early to actually dissect the update and the update hasn't stabilized yet - if you have suffered I've got something for you to try

When Penguin 1.0 was released I had a site that took a huge hit, complete and utter nuclear destruction out of the top 500 styleeeee.

However I was able to recover it within 24 hours with less than 5 minutes work.

All I did was get 500 retweets to the homepage (that lost the rankings) and boom - straight back to the #1 spot.

Granted the ranking dropped again a week later as the Tweet velocity died down.

At that point in time though it did 'appear' like penaltys were temporarily ignored if Google were given the impression it was being shared and talked about a lot on Twitter.

Whether that still works or not now - well you tell me :)

I did something similar to this but it was with Google +. I bought Google plus ones and followers about 60 per day and my site was back after 1 week.

Things that worked one year ago are unlikely to work that well now.

I also ran the same sort of experiment with another site for Google+ but that didn't have the same affect, how ever this was just a drip of 200 across 5 days.

Exactly - and look how long ago that was, how firmly do you think its baked in now?

Things that worked one year ago are unlikely to work that well now.

Why not?

I believe it is MORE LIKELY to work now than it did then due to the further baking in of social signals and the clear shift we have seen the past 6 months on the increased impact of them.

I saw ur advanced tier 1 linkbuilding.. it was awesome. just wondering, you mentioned on the first video that the 1st tier will be hand built but when i look through the series you only demo using ultimate demon.. did i miss the video about hand built 1st tier?

You literally have no idea how Penguin 1.0 (or any algorithm for that matter) worked.

Quoted for truth.

See part 6 :)

You're welcome to your opinion. My opening post is not opinion driven.

Never said it was, but it certainly operates on a different plane of logic.

I'm not saying that the tweets recovered the site - as the twitter activity died down, so did the ranking.

But it did demonstrate that the spike in chatter of the URL on twitter contradicted the penalty, albeit temporarily.

Then it did tank back to where it was.

The logic makes sense, Google's mission is to serve the most relevant result for any given keyword.

If a lot of people appear to be talking about a keyword relevant URL on Twitter, well - that is the result everyone wants right?

Correlation does not equal causation.

Because the fix is temporary it doesn't seem to be worth the time to do unless you were going to continually pay for retweets to prop up the site.

I too was hit by penguin 1.0 and I was able to get out from it after the first refresh which occurred I believe after a month or so of the first roll out. I was able to do this by adding a ton of new 100% original and high quality content to my site and I interlinked all the pages...

Correlation does not equal causation.

Then - as Google will never openly discuss the nuts and bolts of their algorithm...we might as well shut this place down
All we've got is supposition. There is nothing empirical unless you have access to Googles algo first hand.

Social noise was an increasing factor in 2012 - whose to say how it fits in exactly.
We all know corrolation does not equal causation and the OP doesn't claim it does.
But I'd rather know what he had to say and have it as "food for thought" than not.

:)

This is a forum after all. It's pretty much what we are all here for.

How does one demonstrate keyword relevance in a tweeted URL? Would you have to include in the tweet , a hashtag of the keywords ?
