I compose and produce music, and I have always been interested in maybe making money from my music online but I have never really seen a route that looked like it would really work. Selling stock music always seemed like a obvious first choice but all of the stock music sites seemed kind of lame and already had tons of music, so I kind of thought of stock music sites to the likes of stock photography sites, like a place I would put up tons of music and maybe get 1 sale a month or something.

Was wondering if anyone out there is familiar with selling music online, or at least making money from their music in some various form, but I'm especially interested in if anyone has had success with selling stock music at places and what might be some good places to check out if one made quality music? Thanks.

http://www.audiojungle.net is a great place to sell stock music.

Put up a few gigs on Fiverr. You never know... plus its easy money. Just sell the stuff you already have, so you get paid for just uploading (doesn't get any easier than that).

Set up a BST here for custom composing a soundtrack for video marketers. Not sure how much demand there would be, but might be worth it.

Go to freelancer, gury, etc. There might be high demand for your services from video production companies who need custom soundtracks made. (if you get into this, you could have stable work) hell, scrape emails of tons of video production companies and directly solicit them with your prices. You have a talent, so sell it.

Good luck.

put some custom music on youtube with adsense, then write in the description you create custom music, contact for more information, do the same with soundcloud. also also google and see if you can partner with small video creation companies.

Well ideally I want to just make music on my own time that I enjoy and then put it up for sale/streaming/ect. to make me a nice income on autopilot. I'm not really interested in doing custom music work so to speak, in like the contract sense anyway. But obviously if the right offer came along that would be foolish for me to deny then that is always possible.

I never thought about any thing like this. but it seems like that you have a fantastic idea, what if you can compose videos for music companies???
I don't know how, if it is possible, but if there is a platform for this, then it is defenitely going to work for you.

yeah like I said I'm more looking for a option where I can use my existing music to generate a income online.

Upload your song to youtube. If many people likes it, you will have big money!

Hi obeselizard
There are lots of great libraries out there where you can sell your music. The best ones are hard to get into and your music has to fit what they are looking for and be of high quality.

You could start by taking a look at Shockwave-sound, RevoStock, MusicLoops, AudioSparx and Muziko. But there are lots of other great libraries where you can upload your music.

I got into selling royalty free music on line about a year ago and have had relatively good success.
Getting a few sales a month can definitely be done. I do that with 20 tracks and so far not much of an effort in promoting the music myself.

After I hit 50 tracks I will start buy direct traffic and promote my music more aggressively. If you want to know more about my project you can take a look at my website (EagleCinematics). Here I post my marketing ideas and progress in selling my music royalty free on line. I also in the progress of building a list of good music libraries on where to sell your music.
