That article is trash, Matt Cutts does not need to respond to that author to do his job... They don't need to stop individual software you guys, they just do what they have already done... Just like profile links, they used to be the best thing out there many years ago and know they have been turned to borderline worthless, other than indexing other tiers. I mean, I'm sure they still carry a tiny bit of weight, but certainly not like they used to.
With that said, Google does not need to stop ScrapeBox, they just have to de-value blog comments or {insert other link type(s) here}.
Q: So, What stops them then, you ask?
A: Simple, they simply do not have enough other sources to mine metrics from, while they are working on it by using things like social signals. They are still struggling to prevent badasses like us (@BHW
) from just creating 50,000 facebook accounts and auto liking our sites. As resources like Facebook are on 3rd party competing platforms Google simply does not have access to them nor their data.
Twitter --> Ended contract w/ Google several yearsback
Facebook --> Works with Microsoft/Bing, you really thing they're allowed to share internal data with Google?
This is why social signals are still not that effective, if at all... Google cannot distinguish a real like from a fake, or a real tweet from an authentic looking tweet from 100,000 bot accounts.
This is also why you will notice fake Google+1's tend to hurt rankings. In that scenario, Google has 1st tier access to the data on all those accounts, and while they might go ahead and give you the +1's ...internally they are likely penalizing you and classifying your links as a spammer.
You could compare this concept to ghosting of ads on Craigslist, they let the spammer think they won and in reality are in the midst of tracking you down and putting you to a stop.
--> And please don't think you're clever because you use phone verified accounts, or add some basic profile.
a. Google can detect nearly all proxies using a plethora of techniques, even if they let you "slip through".
b. Google can mine data on accounts and compare the behavioral patterns to a data set of known human behavior. For example, if you're auto-bots are just posting links or scraped content or posting at specific intervals, it's rather easy.
c. If you're accounts are continually being logged in from ips all over the world or you're using an unnaturally high amount of ips even in the right geographic area.
d. If you're running off a VPS/Dedi without proxies, they can just perform an ISP lookup on your IP via MaxMind or similar databases and tell you're not running a residential/biz internet line rather a web hosting company. RED FLAG.
e. You use stock photos, Google can easily use their own internal reverse image algorithms and or 3rd party databases and services in conjunction with their own databases such as http://www.tineye.com
f. If you use people's photos who have Facebook, those photos may very well already be in Google's index, in which case if the names don't match up on both profiles, BUSTED.
--> There's a million other ways, but hopefully you learned something. Take away point being, don't use Fake Google +1 , authentic though, I believe can give you a nice boost.
