Should I Stop My 9-5 Work & Focus on IM?

Well, been dilemma for past 2 weeks thinking for this.

Would you stop your 9-5 job if you get paid for $1000 salary, but making $2000~$2500+ monthly from IM?

I feel like my 9-5 job limiting my time to focus on online business. I know if you want something further, you have to sacrifice something earlier.

I don't think this is what he means.

He's currently making $2,000-2,500 from IM and an addition $1,000 from his normal job for a total of $3,000-3,500 monthly. I believe he's asking whether or not it's worth it to quit his salary job so he can work on his IM more.

Depends if you have money put away. If you have 6 months salary ($6000) put away then why not give it a shot. Your set for 6 months if you have to start all over online for some unknown reason or have to use a new method. If you don't have that then get the 6 months salary saved up then quit. Just my thoughts...seems like whatever can go wrong will sometimes so better to be safe than sorry.

I will have to disagree with the common sentiment of the rest of the posters. How much of a nest egg do you have - that is, how much do you have saved up if everything goes to shit? How about family, do you have a wife, kids, or parents/grandparents to take care of? What are your current expenses like? How long have you been making this amount of money?

It really is tough to judge a complete situation by what little you have shared on this post. If you feel that

1) you are comfortable right now, in terms of nest egg & finances.

2) can make more money if you focus solely on internet marketing.

3) Have had a track record of success (not ranking a site in 3-6 months that is making $2k+ that will be slapped with the G**le ban hammer next algo update).

Then I would say go for it. If not, you should build up that nest egg and remove a lot of your expenses to allow you to quit your FT position.

I completely agree with this. There are so many things that we don't know about you to give you accurate advice. If you don't have an emergency fund then start building one now. Everyone should do this regardless of their situation. If I didn't have this money saved up (6+ months of expenses and some emergency money) then I would continue to work both jobs to grow my savings.

Agreed. Family factors come into this. But if you have no dependents and are a single young guy/girl and have an appetite for risk (which you need in this game BTW), then quitting your 9-5 is the only way you will ever be able to take your business further. Otherwise too much time and enegy is spent just trying to make that wage.... but you gotta have a good sound plan in place

If it were me I would since I have no dependents & am in school but unfortunately I'm not there yet..

If you can meet all your bills & have money left over, and are steadily increasing your IM earnings I'd say go for it as long as you use the time productively. Don't screw around now that you're free an extra 40 hours per week, that time still needs to be dedicated to some form of work.

this is always a fascinating question to follow. generally, it comes down to how much you are able to risk. if you have the savings to back up the risk, definitely go for the higher income. it's up to you to decide how much savings is enough to justify your obligations to family, loans, mortgage, rent etc.

If you can live under 1000$ (which is rare) and you get most of the time between 2k-2.5k (90% of time), then yes you should quit and focus, save for emergency fund and invest partial amount into your IM business.

If you have a family, you can still manage to survive with IM (I believe the amount you make is spending little time on it). Since you don't make much in 9-5 and make more in IM, go IM and spend more time with family, friend and get more knowledge in the world of SEO.

Time is crucial and 9-5 job is deadly and sucking up all your energy.

Salaries fluctuate highly, depending on the profession. If you like to flip hamburgers you could be making $1500 a month but if you are a doctor you could be making that in a day if not hours.

If you like to spam YT, play the Google game or waste money in PPC then go for it.
