Hey guys, I'm slowly learning SEO and backlinking but there's still something I need to understand: social SEO. I hope you can answer my few questions :)

Question 1) Facebook From what I get, websites that are often shared via Facebook get some kind of SEO juice. That's right? What about when a company's Facebook page gets liked? Is that worthless from an SEO standpoint or does Google understand the link between them? Is there a certain point where Google understands that FB shares are... unnatural? On a 6 months perspective, how much shares could I buy without being scared of being penalized?

Question 2) Good backlinks When you get good backlinks, do you go through the hassle of buying shares, tweets and +1 for them in order to increase SEO juice? Once again, is there a cap for boosting them without getting in trouble? Thanks a lot! Cheebee

There is now juice just traffic. It has a huge impact on rankings. You can buy shares/like but if there is now real traffic it is a sign something is wrong.

I'm not sure what you mean by "There is now juice just traffic. It has a huge impact on rankings.."

I know that a website without real visits is worthless, but I am wondering about the SEO effect of adding social signals so my rankings can be higher, therefore making my website visible to search engine users. Do you say that shares and +1 don't have any effects but clicks on my website improve ranking?

Thanks for trying to answer :P has anybody seen a website being penalized because of abuses in "false" social signals? Just to see how tough google is on this kind of enforcement.

yes, when I first tried Addmefast, I sent about 50 likes and 30 tweets to one of my posts in 1 day and I am sure because of that my ranking were dropped by couple of pages..

I'm a bit surprised because 30 tweets on an article is quite common in big newspapers... I guess you have to go slower when your website has very few credibility with Google (or very few visits). Thanks!

This is my take on the subject.

I do seo for local businsses, Because of this, I have been very wary of pushing a lot of social signals at my customers site.

Since social media mentions started being tracked, I decided that I had to do something.

I joined linkcolider and listed my website and one customers site and just set it up for facebook shares, stumbles and tweets. I get credits by auto surfing, and just let this grind away on the background a few days a week

What this does is get a few these social signals at a time and they trickle in. I feel this looks more natural.

After a few months, I noticed that my tracking programs started to give me satisfactory ratings (and now good) in the social media metrics.

Total over several months I have a few hundred shares and twice that many tweets, and a stumble or two. The same applies for my customer site.

I cannot say for sure how much the social signals help in pure ranking, but the rankings don't dance as much as they used to that much is trackable in rank tracker. The more my social signals rises, the less my keywords dance, across the board for that domain.

Remember these points:

My examples are with local businesses, and local gets a different set of rules that normal SEO.

During this time, the rankings have tended to rise, but this is happening to sites I do not yet do this social experiment with, so I can't really attribute the ranking rise only to social signals.

It's influence is not major yet as far as I can see at the local SEO level, but it is there.

As far as quantity is concerned, if it doesn't look natural, Google will eventually punish you for it. That don't mean you can't make a ton of money before it happens though.

just make it look realistic and you should be okay.
I've noticed people on youtube getting 100k+ subscribers and it's more than the actual pros... and their profiles are still actve for google adsense, so i don't see a problem..

couldn't you just cash in, then once you get in trouble change the blog title? and or site whatever your using. then keep changing to avoid the punishment?

Hi

Social should be involved in every SEO campaign out there as it does play a huge role in branding as well as traffic, rankings and other things.

It should be done with the same safe measures you would do your organic SEO with such as using as many different platforms as possible to keep it as natural looking as possible, only link to high PR credit worthy websites and most importantly don't over do it because yes you can get drops in your rankings if it is overdone.

Don't go grab 5,000 or more post from the same platform thinking Google cant see or acknowledge that, anyone can see that when it happens and so can Google.
Google loves Social but at the same time I can assure you they are looking for abuse.

The key to any successful SEO campaign is "Diversity".

Google feeds off Social Media in a big way. In order to have a successful SEO campaign, you need to focus heavily into SMM. the bulk of your traffic/Customers is just sitting there, potentially waiting to find YOU

just run share services.... what's funny is even the "famous" people use share services or have bots. but who is going to ban the rock from fb for buying fake likes. ya know what i'm sayin?

If you mimic natural human behavior you should be fine, same things goes for backlinks as well, but these all things needs to work hand in hand in order to work
