Best platform for an e-commerce video sales site?

In terms of uploading the videos, transferring the videos etc, will magento cover this, or would i be looking at different software?

Yup, Magento is legit option for your needs.
I was thinking of just using a wordpress theme, templatica is the one im looking at that focuses on a video display site. Would this be advisable or should i pay for a web developer to make me a site?
Also, im thinking to start with i may just offer paypal as an option to pay, as then i dont have to register as a merchant i believe?
I think ill be going with Amazon s3 for the uploads. So in your opinion, should i used magento for the e-commerce side of things, would this be sufficient for customer buying the downloads to the videos?
If i do just decide to offer paypal to start with, how could i automate it so that when a customer has paid, they receive the link to download the file?
I've also been looking at e-junkie. Is anyone familiar with this, it seems very straight forward, and I could still upload using Amazon S3, then by the looks of it, e-junkie takes care of the rest when a customer clicks buy?
I definitely would like to add a membership feature to the site, as i would like to also make a video selection for members only, which would also give them discount on other video's that don't get put in the members area.

I use and love Wishlist Member. It can do everything, I've been using it for well over 2 years now.

Take a look at Prestashop. I would not suggest Magento unless you have lots of money to throw away. Themes are expensive, mods even more so. Custom development costs more than usual due to the code standard. Prestashop is the most straight forward ecommerce platform I've ever used and is a breeze to modify. Mods+themes are usually ~$50 vs magentos $300+
Once you install prestashop you can add products with files (called a virtual good.) Then when the person checks out and pays it will automatically send them a download link and it will also show it in their order history for download. No addon required. One may be needed if you wish to store the file on S3 or a CDN.
Membership can be done but IIRC it requires a mod.
Regarding payment methods, if you want to accept CC via authorize.net you will need a merchant account. Those with low processing fees usually require legal documents too. Probably best to start off with just Paypal as they can act as a CC processor.

Magento: You better have deep pockets as everything is expensive and requires custom work.
Prestashop: I would stay away. I had a ecommerce site on prestashop and could not get their paypal module to work. Therefore, no one could pay through paypal and lost a ton of money! We spent 3-4k a month on traffic, but could not convert.
Volusion: Current platform I am on now. I would honestly recommend them and their service is excellent 24/7. Seems like you could integrate pretty easily with them too. They have a feature where you can upload your you-tube video to your product page for your 30 second promo.The customer can checkout and download the product too. Not too expensive to custom code either.
