Facebook just went full retard

My prediction is not as pessimistic as most of you. I don't think FB going anywhere, and I'm not just talking about the economics of it (i.e. the fact that they have billions in cash just waiting to expand and acquire any significant competition.) I actually think we'll see FB open up the newfeeds a little bit more in the future. I think this will be done by giving more weight to the user's preferences in terms what posts are likely to show up and what posts are likely to remain hidden. It wouldn't be that hard for them to add a feature which let individual users decide "I would like to see more posts from this person/page/group on my feed." Or alternatively "I would like to see less posts from this person/page/group on my feed."

Sometimes I wonder if people who get massively butthurt when you say something bad about fb sell likes or something, or if they've just gotten pwned by google so bad they'll carry water for anyone else.

Are you serious? Facebook has over 100 million monthly unique visitors more than Twitter has, and you say that Twitter has surpassed Facebook? LOL, I don't think you even realize how big Facebook actually is. Twitter will never surpass Facebook, they aren't even playing in the same social league and the difference between the userbase is huge, Facebook have 500% more users than Twitter has. Facebook is a much more social platform than Twitter will ever be. And a matter of time before he sells it? If you think that Zuckerberg would ever sell Facebook you have to be out of your mind.

To people thinking that Facebook will die out like Myspace, are you even serious? This is a whole different ERA and if you haven't seen how much Facebook has changed the past few years you must be blind. That's the difference, Myspace didn't keep up with the changes needed to entertain the masses and was never even near the same amount of users that Facebook have.

Facebook is growing and changing every year and if you haven't noticed Facebook has also infected the whole internet so it will be very VERY hard to get rid of, do you know how many sites and businesses that actually relies on Facebook? Don't you see the Facebook LIKE button in almost every website that you visist?

Do you know that with the help of Facebook small sites and apps has been able to grow into million dollar businesses? Facebook is NOTHING like Myspace, and to think that Facebook will die out would be like saying that Google will die out. No, Facebook & Google are here to stay for a long time, backed out by billions of dollars and many bright minds.

Aww, look at the little Wikipedia reader. Facebook was created over 2 years before Twitter. It was also backed by a co founder of Paypal almost immediately. It's pretty much recognized that it was someone else's idea, why? Well, why would anyone pay a settlement fee if they're not guilty? People have been spamming, selling, and abusing facebook since it's creation FAR more than twitter. Hell, I have a couple thousand accounts myself. The numbers for those calculations were obviously a bit off. Facebook won't lose it's entire user base right away. It will just phase out but in a different way than Myspace. In conclusion to your obviously mislead mind, FUCK facebook and FUCK paypal. Have a nice day.
 
Hmm. Not sure FB will actually GO anywhere, but it will gradually lose popularity, just like MySpace did. It is, however, going to be a hard social network to completely stamp out (so to speak), only because so many people are coding for it and integrating with it on every level (sites, apps, even businesses and corporate landing pages, etc.) ... that is would be really hard to back-fill its void with something else in many cases... BUT...

Warren Buffet did not want to invest in it, because (just to paraphrase him) he could not UNDERSTAND its purpose, and how it, as an actual central entity or business, would ever actually MAKE MONEY for itself. He viewed it as just a huge bubble company that would eventually burst.

I think he's probably right. Either that, or (if you believe in all the conspiracies), it's really just a puppet wing of the Office of Information Awareness Project, created by the DARPA and CIA shadow-proxy corporations (it does happen to be true that a lot of funding came from former DARPA agency heads early on in 2nd round)... and it's just another way for government types in black suits who have no names or badges to be able to track peoples' activities online a little easier and pry into their lives.

Whatever. I only have fake accounts on FB. To easy get hacked there and spill all your deets to the world.

IMHO anything social for the sake of being social is doomed to die. In some sense its like eating the same food every day - at some point you feel the need to throw up.

p.s. Comparing Google to Facebook is like comparing oranges to potatoes. Google has algorithms, which are actually useful at the times when Matt is on vacation. Facebook has nothing except a large user database. Once its social buzz is dead, they will bank hard with Clickbank.
 
My Facebook wall is practically dead since most kids my age use Twitter now.

Obviously someone is a little butthurt because he is wrong. But once again let me clarify it for you: FACEBOOK HAS 100MILLION MORE ACTIVE USER THAN TWITTER HAS, DO YOU READ THAT CORRECTLY? YES, 100 MILLION MORE ACTIVE USERS, NOT CREATED ACCOUNTS - BUT USERS WHO ARE ONLINE EVERY DAY, hope that come through your ignorant mind.

Yes Facebook was created 2 years before Twitter, but what the hell does that got to do with anything? Myspace was created 1 year before Facebook and that doesn't make it more popular now does it? Yahoo was created before Google and still not more popular, so your logic is clearly wrong.
Who the fuck cares if it were backed up by Paypal? You aware that you need a lots of money and support to grow a site as big as Facebook do you? Or is that also too hard for you to understand?

Instead of being pathetic and hating big corporations like they were some evil monsters trying to suck all of ours helpless souls, try seeing it from another point of view. - At the end of the day Facebook and Paypal are still very USEFUL tools for us to connect with the world around us and getting through our payments on the internet, they DO bring people something in return because if they weren't people wouldn't use them. So before you start running around in circles screaming fuck Facebook and fuck Paypal as if they were some evil source of the world, look through your narrow world view and you can see that they do bring a kind of service to the people.

If you could actually understand how much a site like Facebook has changed the world we wouldn't even be having this argument, but I guess not everyone has the will to see the big picture and instead just labels things as simply good or bad.

I use Twitter more these days, Facebook is getting very tiresome!

Twitter and google plus are going to be big on the future as facebook starts to rot.

Well, that was the most unprofessional and immature thing I have ever read. I wasn't looking for an argument with you. I see your attempt at an insult and I laugh it off. It just shows your lack of experience. I can read numbers and I can also read statistics. I love the assumption about how I say "fuck the government" and this and that, even though I didn't? :D I say FUCK PAYPAL because they screw over hard working people. Don't even say that they don't, because you know they do. Facebook has turned into pregnancy updates, marriage updates, and event invites. Clap, clap, clap. Fact is, it's value went down per share and cut it's value in half last year. It will happen again. This is the last reply I will give you because I can see you're just looking to argue about things and you can take that attitude directly back to the playground.

well other social networks won't kill facebook. if there's anything that would kill it, it's called "mobile"

ever since we entered the mobile shift (smartphones/tablets era) people use less and less facebook (even though it's still the most used app but i mean look at general hours usage) and at the same time they start to use more and more of other social apps such as path, waze, instagram, tumblr, whatsapp, line, wechat, etc. facebook started to worry and they had to buy instagram and i heard they also want to buy waze.

so if there's anything in the future that would make people use less facebook, it's not competing social network sites like G+. It's the mobile social apps that specialize in one area (for example whatsapp and LINE for messaging). Problem is, teenagers are usually the trendsetter for social networks and they start to use less facebook for other apps. Have you seen the latest improvement in facebook messenger where you can use emoji like in LINES? THey would never implement that if they never feel threatened by these messaging apps (LINE/whatsapp/the likes)
