Market Samurai - BLP vs BLD

Hi guys. Would I be right in thinking that BLD is the number of backlinks a website has in its entirety for all keywords, and that BLP is the number of backlinks for the exact keyword.

And, assuming that's right, that BLP is what's worth paying attention to if creating niche blogs. Say I created a website called "cheapweightlosspills.com", all hypothetical obviously, that for "cheap weight loss pills" I should be looking at the BLP and, for the most part, ignoring BLD?

I notice a lot of huge websites are ranking with tens of thousands to millions of BLD links, but very few to no BLP links. My thinking is that I could outrank them easy enough for individual keyword blogs.

Would I be correct in my assumption and conclusion?

I'm looking at some keywords and the competition are pr2 to pr3, websites like ebay and amazon are listing but they're not on the top spots, but while the BLP is very low the BLD for these sites are huge, going from 10k to 2 and a half million. What say you?

BLP = Total # of backlinks to the page
BLD = Total # of backlinks for the whole domain

BLP will usually be lower than BLD because it shows the backlinks count only for that page.

I thought as much, so BLD is backlinks in their entirety for the domain for any number of different keywords, not necessarily the keyword I'm targeting.

Now it's just a matter of weighing it up. Is it worth trying to compete with huge websites that have 0 BLP and are only ranking on account of their established website status, ie. ebay, bestbuyer, costco. I'm a bit out of the loop so far as Google algorithms go.

It used to be that with unique content, some on-page seo, a handful of strong backlinks and a keyword-based domain that you could hit the first page of Google, irrespective of the competitions overall number of backlinks to their domain. Is this still the case? Do niche blogs of this kind still hold weight?

Also worth noting is Market Samurai sources the majority of its data from Bing and not google, and I think most will agree that its not nearly the tool it once was.

Any alternative tools with a Google focus? I've picked up Market Samurai mainly for the "SEO COMPETITION" tool, which isn't much good if it's using Bing as opposed to Google.

I tend to use Traffic Travis more than anything these days

While I have heard very good things about "Ultimate Niche Finder" and "Licorne AIO" I haven't personally used them.

SEO PowerSuite is another good tool however you need a ton of proxies to run it remotely efficiently, which for me is a big pain in the ass and the reason why I stick to Traffic Travis.

Market Samurai pulls the backlink data from MajesticSEO not Bing. It's still good enough for me to do a quick competition analysis.

Yeah your right I forgot about that, I don't use it all that much anymore except occasionally I'll run it to check my ranking data, which does seem to be accurate atleast the last few times I've checked it.

I use Rank Tracker to check rankings. Its report is professional looking than crappy market samurai's report.

I've heard nothing but good things about Traffic Travis, I'll give them a whirl, and compare it to Market Samurai (I only use them for keyword ideas).

I use Version 4 of the Pro Edition, more than likely that feature isn't available on the free version. I did however get v3 & v4 Pro Editions here on BHW ages ago, they both are still up-datable to this day and work flawlessly.

It might be worth a quick search to see if those old threads are still here.

Thanks for that. It used to be more like Market Samurai though in regards to the fact it would list specifically the top Google results for a keyword, with backlink information for each, rather than averaging everything out.



That's how I remember it (and the feature was available in the free version too), I guess they've stopped with it for one reason or another

Yes, but it's not even an accurate for BLD since they can't grab all the links now.
