Can website going offline affect google rankings?

The server im using for my main site has been going offline for hours at a time the last few days and was wondering if this could be the reason nearly all my 22 keywords have been dropping in the ranking from 1-5th position to low page 2 and 3

It's well known that the Page speed affects the rankings so yeah there's no reason for Google to show up a offline url on top of the search results. It definitely affects the rankings but also depends on how long your site is down and how much authority it has got. Better fix your downtime or move your site's to much stable hosting providers.

Thanks for the reply, My site has ranked in position 1-3 for some big keywords and had been getting over 20kUV daily, I'm almost sure the issue with the ranking drop is to do with this downtime, I'm currently using RMX hosting, I can't even access there main website :/

yep, it surely affect your rankings. Try to find a good hosting provider.

Id definitely look at getting a new provider, hosting is so cheap now that a cheap and reliable host is easy to find.

Okay once RMX comes back online I am going to go about sortint out a new reliable host for my websites

Also, once I get my site on the new host with full uptime will I see my rankings come back again? I sure hope my SEO work is not lost

Yes, that can affect ranking for sure.
Google algo says that sites are made for humans and should give good usability.
If some site is often down, that is for sure not good for users,
so you will get some negative SEO points for that.

Move site to better hosting and use cloudflare to get better load time.

downtime affects your rankings(Personal Experience).

Better switch to a good host before its too late.

I speak from personal experience, i had in the past two websites that lost first page ranking due to persistence downing of hosting server.

My simple advise is to find a new host.

Mostly it will comeback once the loading times are faster. It takes quite time for the google to reindex the site. if your site takes too much time to get back, ranking become worse. So, Change the nameservers to other hosting and upload the backup site to the new hosting now itself.
