And yes hard work is the key... if you got a method that allow you to push a button without running any tests, without analyze results just work 1-2 days and you are on first position then please, and I'm serious here, share it with us... And I'm not talking about ranking an website for a long, very long tail kw with no competition....
And I'm not talking about buying SEO services because that is not a method....

Find something that is not getting being discussed openly,sape etc were at one point not discussed at all because they were new methods,do not expect(and nor should you) killer methods to be discussed openly.As soon as an effective method os outed it's a matter of time before it loses it's value and becomes a liability to your site.
Many of these killer methods are found out and then a service starts offering them for way less than their value,that is the end game,most will jump on to it then whilst the smart ones immediately move to another system and gradually get rid of the toxic links replacing them with the new method.
Sape is huge,still works,but the next penguin update will put paid to a sizeable amount of the benefit,in the worst case do not be suprised if G devalues .ru/ro overall if they believe the network is simply too large to find(which it is).
There are many basic yet effective methods,web 2's,scrapebox(using more than just the blast) I would create your own network,trust me I have seen blog networks and a vast majority are probably about to get hammered,low quality crap,the sheer volume of OBL's is a giveaway so as has been said test shit out doesn't matter how stupid it may seem and keep going til you hit gold.
Hacking is working amazingly well in high comp niches(not my scene) it's pretty much impossible to get top 2 if hackers are in your niche.

Hard work is not needed, just pay people to do your work, sit back and do fk all. That is blackhat for you. Probably the best method at the moment is Sape. Throw thousands of links at a well paying keyword and rinse and repeat if your site gets hit.

Keep in mind that more backlinks doesn't always translate to higher rankings. One link from an authority site like the ones mentioned above is a million times more valuable than a few hundred links from forums, blogs, or web 2.0s.
Finally, if you're going up against other affiliates, remember that they're probably also adding backlinks. You might actually be losing the backlink war despite adding links.
