How important is yahoo site directory?

I've been looking at some site explorer website and I've noticed that they have the yahoo site directory as a criteria for ranking. Does the yahoo site directory really help in rankings for yahoo? Is it worth the $299 price tag for the US market? Will it help rank better for google?

I have come across a lot of people in my time who have said it makes no difference, and am yet to come across one person who thinks it does. Other than that, there is no way I would give Yahoo 300 just to consider my site.

Depends on your site and budget. In SEO terms its poor value and your money could be spent better elsewhere.

However if you represent a professional client with a solid budget then its a good idea to get into the directory.

So far I'm leaning towards not doing. It seems from everybody's experience its not worth the money.

I have also heard from a good few that their sites was rejected. As mentioned above, there are far better things you can invest your money in.

As duffers5000 says, it won't provide much SEO benefit ( it used to years ago ) and if you're starting out, it's a waste of money. But if you've got a budget from a corporate then it's another good quality link to have.
