Authority over micro, my journey creating authority websites

Good luck. How do you monetize your gaming site? 'cause I've seen plenty of gaming CPA offers. Have you thought about these?

Actually I've left the site dormant for some time (Too lazy to keep it updated) so I removed the adverts as well. It was monetized with AdSense alone (which sadly isn't worth it in the gaming niche). I'll check out the CPA offers-thing, sounds interesting.

Hey George!
Nice job on the earnings so far, I am thinking of doing a similar project down the road. What is the UV/Day that site one gets? What is your average CPC right now for your website 1 and would you say the keywords you are ranking for are difficult or rather easy. How much total money have you spent on website 1, I noticed that you are submitting web 2.0 by yourself so that must cut down the cost by a lot.

So far my first website has been up for two weeks and I have about 10-50 UVs daily. Still waiting for the google dance to stabilize a bit. (Mentioned yesterday that the rankings keep jumping from 10~100) with an average CPC of 1.62$.

Website number two launched yesterday so I have yet to see any clicks (although, it's monetized primarily with Amazon while website (1) is monetized with AdSense) but it will be fun to see where it lands on.

  • The first one is moderate-high but I'm positive that I can break through within 2-3 months to #1-3 in SERPs.
  • The second is medium and it shouldn't be that hard to rank.
I try to keep my budget down and not paying for things that I can do myself. I have enough money to work full-time on this for 6 months (after that I'm expecting 50% of my living-costs from this which is about 300$/monthly).

What I do spend money on is articles and social signals which rounds out at 5$ per site: twitter followers, facebook and google likes.
On the first website I've spent a total of 50$ (45$ articles and 5$ social signals) and I'm planning the same for the second website as well.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask here and/or PM me. :)

29th April

I've had a busy weekend but what I have done is:

  • I've started building social signals on the second website.
  • Experimented a bit with ad placements on both websites.
  • Started building articles for the third website (which, although up contains no content)

My first website is starting to take shape quite nicely with 15 articles and the keywords (the important ones) are ranking #9, #9 and #11. Still need to work out what my next plan of action is for it - Content Is King, yes. But I want to give it more of an 'authority' appeal so most likely going to start working on a static frontpage instead of a normal 'blog'.

Second website as mentioned earlier needs some social love before I can start analyzing it properly.

I also have a question about my current ad-layout.

Obviously I can't ask you how long a string is but is this a decent layout (basic one)?

This looks like a good layout. However, I'd increase the height of the bar/strip link unit (2nd one from the top). Maybe 90 pixel or 100 pixel. Checkout lifed.com if you have not already.

Thanks. I have two websites that are up and running so I actually have that implemented on my other website (good way testing different layouts). Sadly I'm confined to the adsizes that Adsense have.

How is this going for you?

Overall it's going good. Been quite busy in real-life (not that it's an excuse!) so I have been slacking on the backlinking-bit. Two of my websites are earning about 5$ / day which is good considering they've been up for about a month.

Website #1 has 15 articles.
Website #2 has 20 articles.
Website #3 has 8 articles.

Right now I believe it's a matter of time only. Obviously I'm working on adding more and more content as well as adding more social signals but for now, I'm going to drip-feed some backlinks and leave them be and see how the upcoming Google-update pans out before doing any seriously damaging.

What program your using? The one that shows the ranking?

Subbed.

Have similar plans for a couple of amazon sites with similar competition on the keywords.

Thanks for sharing your process/progress

I am wondering about this myself. And OP, nice journey. Seems you are on a right track. Good luck mate.

Nice I just subscribe to this. I have a website with a 6 years old domain that I started working on to make it an authority site. My problem is that it is a very competitive market and It won't be easy to rank. I made Twitter and Pinterest accounts to push traffic. I hope to get some good pointers from this journey.

Good luck!!

Awesome. Do you mind telling us the general category of your sites -- like health, entertainment, technology, etc? I hope I'm not asking too much because I had a website in the entertainment category that was getting a good number of visitors, but earning me nothing despite having really good ad placement positions. Perhaps it was the niche -- I don't know.

And what kind of domains are you using? EMDs or domains containing portions of your keywords? I'm looking to get back in the niche sites game, but this time with authority sites like you're doing instead of micro sites. I think I found a great keyword today with a good number of related long tails.

Do keep us updated with the journey, and the earnings too. Good luck!

Using EMDs and currently I have 4 websites up (animals, clothing, outdoors and religion). Main thing you need to think about is that you need keywords with commercial interest else you're not going to get your ads clicked / product sold.
