My Online SEO Case Study

i used socialmarker. and the game admin are loving it as one in particular dubbed Aldous has been trying to promote via two MUD ranking sites. Good simple method. I just want to bump it up with what I have learnt. Ive been off the computer for a few days because of my girlfriend. Back to work now :)

Do you submit to 10+ of social bookmark sites? I had a blog submitted to about 20 sb sites, and I did it many many times with no real traffic.

Submitting alone wont really get you the traffic, it will give you good google exposure though depending on your keyword(s) and competition and your niche. You really need votes/diggs/stumbles etc for traffic to come from these social bookmarking sites. I submitted to 16.

I see, maybe I choose wrong key phrases, I have tried mass submission to article directories, sb sites, but none of them works. My site is one year age and I promote it for 4 months, still remain 20 visitors at most per day. It's a competive market though.

Yeah, you will need to up the amount of voting your submissions get then. You can do that by using multiple accounts with different ips, or pay people to do it for you. Just make sure you dont get caught. Or you can come up with some viral content, which is usually not done intentionally.

nice progress wakkaoaka, my friend. :)

About Jimmy's question, and how about you? completely white hat? or you did some "fake" vote?

no i wont be using fake votes. I will be getting the game players to vote. That will take time of course as my blog becomes trusted and established.

On that note. Another admin dubbed Anubis is behind my blog now as well, he has agreed with my idea of letting admin become guest posters. He wants to give sneek peaks to updates etc. Hes driving traffic there now as well. Alls going well. Oh, and last night when i checked my stats after a couple of posts on onrpg.com i got about 5 visitors. Looking at bumping that up. Dunno if onrpg has linked me in their archive yet, will have to look it up today.

Finally an update lol. I will be posting screenies soon. Ive got a lot of work a head of me.

Sent an invite for anubis to join. And gave Jade admin priveleges. Added a facebook profile and group for rev so feel free to join via my blog or the facebook thread here.

Also made a successful 11 page thread unrelated to rev on onrpg.com, but it has rev in my sig. Getting a lil more traffic from stumbleupon, a lot more traffic from onrpg. There was a lull in traffic for about a week due to me being busy. (and playing rev). Answered a question on yahoo answers to get a sneeky backlink and hopefully a lot more traffic. I also added an 'Invite a Friend" widget so you can email your friends about rev, and so they can do the same for all their friends. The widget is not clickable atm, i dont know why and emailed the producer of the widget and hope to have it resolved soon. It could just be some security ap of mine.

It's at about 17 visits total from onrpg. It is quite a hectic forum with nearly 100 people at one time on the general discussion forum.

I will be sending roughly 50 invites a day to a targetted audience on facebook. I probably shouldnt be sharing this in case fb admin read this, but whatever lol. Im using facebook friend bomber which is cracked here on the forum http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/member-downloads/55492-facebook-friend-bomber.html, then i simply use the search bar in the facebook header to find groups about free games. I joined one that had 58 people in it, and added 53. I had to enter the captcha 22 times, usually its less but the program is a bit buggy, I also noticed that FFB only counted 22 of the 53 friend adds i did because i only entered captchas 22 times. That bug doesnt matter at all, i just hope that people wont get confused and wonder if their FFB is working properly.

I still need to create a video for the game i am promoting, should get that done by tuesday. I then will be using TubeSpinner which is created by Dan, an exec member on blackhatworld.com

And theres yet more things i want to do to help publicize this blog, and im sure the traffic will be great, just gotta get my head down and do the work. Goodnight all!

Heres the analytics screenies, like i said, ive got a lot more work to do. But once I have built up my facebook, myspace, and bebo.

I currently have 80 friends on myspace (i sent 300 requests today). I currently have 51 friends on facebook (from two days of 50 requests a day). Sending 62 friend requests on facebook now. I have joined to gaming groups.

I expect the traffic to continue increasing at a steady rate as i get more and more people to my blog via facebook/myspace/bebo. The more people i get to visit, the higher the chance they will bookmark it, vote for it on mud ranking sites, vote for it on blog directories etc.

Heres a pic of my traffic stats/sources. ONRPG.com is the most successful for february the 22nd as it was the first social network i started to promote on. The social bookmarks arent bringing in much traffic at all because they are standing at 1 digg or stumble etc:

Heres the second page of traffic sources:

FEB22traffic2.png

You can see that on the first day of facebook advertising i got a couple of visits. I was only adding friends, not spamming them with links, gotta try and stay under the radar for long term traffic.

Im going to be sending 200-300 invites daily on myspace, and 50 on facebook daily. Havent made a bebo yet. Oh and i also joined the revelation group on myspace, and posted a frappr map on the blog. The blog does need a lot more content.

I haven't made the rev video yet.

The first spike in traffic was because it was a new blog, and i was informing rev players and bhw about it. Then it dropped off as i spent time submitting to blog lists/social bookmarking sites, and i also spent a lot of time with my girlfriend :P

An important note: After submitting to a lot of bookmarking sites and blog directories a lot of people would just give up if they saw the stats decrease like mine did. But i see this happening a lot when i start a blog, the key is to continue seo'ing/promoting. Submitting to blog directories and bookmarking sites alone wont necessarily get you a boatload of traffic. There's a lot you can do when it comes to promoting/seo, make sure you read bhw.com and other sites like seobook etc before you give up. Once you are happy with the direction in which your traffic stats are going, write down a schedule of what to do, where to do it and when. Then you will have a plan that you can follow each and everytime you want to dominate a niche. Rinse, repeat, build your niche portfolio and zoom in comes the sweet cash.

BTW, what tool do you use for the keyword research for this website of yours? How to find profitable related keywords for you to work on?

I use:
Code:
http://tools.seobook.com/

according to feedjit someone found my site via google :)
Code:
http://www.google.co.nz/search?hl=en&q=revelation+lands+of+kaldana+wiki&btnG=Google+Search&meta=

not one of the keywords im aiming for but hey.

Whoever posted that is a fool. Blogspot domains hold incredible authority, even though they're subdomains. Anyone who has a clue about SEO wouldn't have made a post like that. Look forward to seeing you strategies wakkaoko, and thank you for sharing.

Yea I agree that is true, I am pretty sure that Google gives them a leg-up in some cases since they indeed "own" the blog. I have lots of blogspot blogs that I do some basic SEO and then use to link in a pyramid scheme to my other websites.

i got banned from adsense a while back now. theres a free tool around bhw somewhere.

Got 47 visitors yesterday, yet only 21 today. Preeeeeeeetty shitty for today... Dunno what happened. Im definitely not happy with that result, but i guess that had to happen. Theres a lot more i need to do, i feel like quitting now, especially as im doing this for no money. But i will continue to see how far i can push this text based game.

You may notice that in the picture, that most of my traffic comes from forums, spam adding on myspace and facebook hasnt really worked well yet. Mind you, it hasnt even been a week since i made the myspace/facebook. So it would be crazy to leave the blog now. I guess in the long term, social networking sites like myspace and facebook will pay dividends as far as traffic is concerned. But for instant targetted traffic, nothing beats forums. Most people who visit my blog lately are onrpg.com users, these users then go to kaldana.com which is exactly what I want.

You may also notice that i have a tab opened in the pic with the title: MMORPG.com. If I can get 20-40 visitors a day from one Forum with very little work (10mins to 30mins) Then what if i post on a similar forum? It should double. Should. So you will be seeing the results of that next. MMORPG.com has more visitors than ONRPG.com

I dont know of a site that gives out accurate visitor stats so I will be using statbrain.com as it seems to be the best. ONRPG.com gets: 109,565 visits per day and MMORPG.com gets: 115,136 visits per day. So 20-40 per day from one sig = 0.0001% roughly. Tiny % but pretty alright if you can repeat the 10-30mins work required to get the traffic./b ten forums, 1 hour to 3 hours of work a day = 200-400 visitors a day. not too bad... definitely something to outsource.

BTW, i recently pinged my squidoo lense on pingler.com

I look forward to posting some better news in the following days.

Please keep updating us on your progress. Personally, I think you are doing good considering you only conceived of the idea last week. I wish you the best of luck.

Is there anything I or we can do to help you out?

wakkaoaka, Love this case study. I think people don't get enough visitors as they would like the 1st month or so, but if they get passed that then they're in good waters. Whatever you do don't quit. Who knows, this will probably help you tremendously in the future if you create a blog for just profit, knowing exactly what to expect to begin with.

I didn't hear you say anything about any long tail keywords for this project? Wouldn't that help catch people from the search engines who searched for something similar and would happen to fall upon your site? What would you think about creating sub pages, or blog entries with the specific title as the long tail keywords. (Not sure about this, but just putting some ideas out)

As to the stats I would suggest looking at http://www.attentionmeter.com to compare sites because it uses the most popular (who probably know the most about stats prediction) and shows them in a picture.

Thanks guys. I will be researching some good long tail keywords as well. And thanks for the attentionmeter site. Heres an interesting comparison:
