Does it matter how well your items are packed?

Ok so i'm selling pokemon toys and well i just put them in a poly mailer bag and ship them (the toys them selfs are not in any bags except for the one shipping them). Do you think that's unprofessional? I also marked them as "new" because they are new (well that's what my supplier tells me) but when i look at what "new" means it says "A brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item (including handmade items). See the seller's listing for full details" they did come with a bag but i had to open them to spread the pokemon out (sell them little by little) does this mean they are no longer "new"?

From that definition I would assume that they are not considered new anymore, but then it says "see the sellers listing for more details" so it is more what your definition on your listing of new is. From the pictures they can see what they are purchasing and if you have no complaints from your customers don't change what your doing.

If shipping is free or cheap, and the items arrived undamaged, then you are going to be fine. If you poke out your customers eyes on shipping charges, you better send them packed perfectly. Even then, if the box has a scuff-mark from UPS or FedEx, expect negative feedback blaming you. People lower their standards based on cost, and raise them to unrealistic standards to match what they perceive as predatory pricing.

Most of what I purchase arrives in small envelopes with a little bubble-wrap and a rubber band, and as long as it isn't broken, I don't bitch. I got a perfectly good hard drive from NewEgg once, and they only packed styrofoam peanuts on one side, and let the hard drive rest directly on the cardboard on the other. I dinged them 4 stars for this, not because of what might have happened, but because I paid for packaging to make certain something DIDN'T happen.

I don't know about the packaging but I would try looking into if they actualy come in packaging and you would want to list them as new(other)

Yes. In my opinion you should always send your items in quality packaging and labeling, it increases your professionality instantly. However, the most important thing is that the items that are sent, are in perfect condition when they're received by the customers.

Absolutely, always spend a little extra time making sure you've done a good pack job, because it's a way to add value to the purchase.

When you meet someone for the first time, you usually want to make a good first impression. It's the same thing here. Most customers, whether consciously or not, are going to take packaging into consideration when analyzing their experience. That said you don't need to get crazy with it. I know you're just selling on eBay so what you're doing is probably fine.

But in general, if two companies are selling the exact same product for the same price, but one has come up with a better, more unique, more visually pleasing way to package it, guess who's going to win out?
