Dancing around on the SERPS because of comment posting?

Is it typical for a site to dance around the SERPS page when getting and losing comments with high PR? My site went from page 4 to page 2, back to 4, then page 1. All because I bought some comment posts on some sites that were PR 3-6? Is it typical that g00gle saw my backlink on the main page, then by the time new comments bumped it to the second page it wasnt relevant anymore? (Since the second page of comments has no PR)

As thedorf noted, dancing has everything to do with your backlink profile being reevaluated to reflect the new links. Once Google has determined where your site should be, then all of their datacenters need to normalize your position. You may bounce around for a little while, but hopefully on page 1 you will finally rest.

This is applicable on autoapprove blog posts that are open for commenting. They can easily deleted by the webmaster of the blog. Watch out on these especially if they are do-follow.
