I have a site that I am just launching that is a compilation of activities that I have built for a specific niche. There are a couple hundred pages because of the activities but there isn't much content on the site. I have been trying to figure out where to sprinkle the content in and was wondering if it would be best to merge/create a blog that is part of the site and then just post once a day to it. Or if I should create a "resources" section that has the different articles. Wordpress is nice because then I don't have to spend the time creating a "resources" section and it will pretty much do it for me. Anyone have any advice for how to structure putting quality content on a site? Not sure if it matters but the site doesn't sale a product, using adsense atm for monetizing; I just have activities for people to do and have about 200-500 u/v a day right now and am looking to grow it.

You need both. Content on the site will give you a lot of strange, long-tail keywords (Keyword: "software that allows me to find my neighbor's criminal record in another state"), but only links from other sites will allow you to rank for specific, high-quality keywords.

Your primary pages should be content rich - and target 1 primary search phrase per page (but have supporting keyword phrases as well)

You can add a blog to your site, and incorporate anchor text links to relevant primary pages - i.e. use your blog to boost the theme of your site

One more tip, would be to interlink pages to help increase link juice within your site. That means you'll want each blog post to have keywords that are hyperlinked to other blog posts related to the highlighted keywords. This will also help to increase visitor retention time and reduce bounce rate, which could positively impact your SE rankings as well.

It's more effective to point those anchor-text links to static pages - i.e. your primary pages

You will need to arrange your site in an organized way. Try to put up pages with good content on it. Normally, separate content pages are pages for topics that you want to highlight. Then you can set-up a blog page, which you can update daily.

What would you say is the major difference between blog postings and articles - I have always looked at them as being the same, aka: content. So could you explain the strategy or difference between the two? So say that I have a website on dogs. I would do pages on dog behavior training, dog food, dog potty training; Then what would use the blog to focus on?

BTW, thanks for the great info everyone

The strength of the blog posts is the self-promotion of the site's static pages

My whole outlook for the past few years has been "silo sites" which need 90 percent back-linking in order to get the same rankings as normal sites

A wordpress blog is not really suitable for siloing without going to extreme measures - but Mike Leibner of blogging underground and article underground introduced the "pages not posts" method - which advocates setting wordpress up as a static site, and using the blog posts to internally anchor text link to the site's primary static pages - and this is simple and effective

The principal is simple - static pages stay visible, but blog posts disappear from view, as you constantly publish new posts

So, using your example, you would have pages:
dog behavior training
dog food
dog potty training

Then you would simply find news items, or something similar about dog behavior training and publish a short post that contains the anchor text link "dog behavior training" which points directly to your dog behavior training static page

Ditto:
dog food
dog potty training

What you are doing is building "theme" for your static pages - which are you primary/money pages, and using blog posts to do it

Well said!

Here's a couple of videos showing how to do it:

Just wanted to give an update that it appears as though this method didn't work for me as we'll as hoped. There are better methods out there like interlinking pages as WebDAV suggested and then building back links. I suppose that I could get the page to rank for more than one keyword but I am really wanting to be strong on a specific keyword so I have remove the dynamic content portion and have stuck with a static approach and link building tactics. I appreciate everyone's feedback on this.

yes blog helps a lot as long as post are related to the niche... Good Luck
