First - want to thank you for sharing this amazing experience with us. Got my main online asset killed by that zoo updates, so was looking for something safe from upcoming animals. Looks like I found where to re-startSo..
I've read all the pages in this thread, my site is up & ready to be promoted (I set up a review site for some physical product group), but I still have serious probs with my Google Alert configuration. Let us imagine I've set up a site with reviews for lawn mowers as an example.
I also assume that I should get traffic from forum threads where topic starter requested some info on:
1) lawn mower reviews exactly (i.e.: "Please advise some good mower review sites")
2) lawn mower choice-related question (i.e.: "Which lawn mower is better - gas or electric?")
3) exact model/brand - related question (i.e.: "Any experience with HUSQVARNA RZ3016 mower?")
I personally think that people from "unaware" buying stage would be useless for such a method.
Like, if I'd post a link into a thread similar to "How do I mow my lawn". Seems that that person is not going to buy anything yet.
First, he'll have to find out that he needs a mower. Then he'll research mowers' types and think that he wants a gas mower.
That is where I should steal him from forums. Right?
So with alerts I'd set this keyword list:
- lawn mower reviews
- gas lawn mowers
- electric lawn mowers
- HUSQVARNA RZ3016
In fact, I did so. And get zero results in my inbox for over 300 alerts.
(well, actualy I get a couple each day or 2, but that's enough only to confirm that Alerts service is still alive, not for marketing)
All alerts are set as per your advice: all results, discussions, send immideatelly.
But my box is empty. What do I do wrong? Please help
Meathead, wouldn't it be too impertinently to ask you to post an example of keywords you would use for Alerts in some example niche?
Prefferably, something from physical goods area

I had the same issue and want to share it with you and others.
While using a keyword from the health-nice I didn't get enough alerts on high competitive search terms (like the keyword itself or a lot of "how to"-phrases)
The problem was that I am using Google not in English. To change it, go to google dot com slash preferences and change your language. Afterwards recreate your Google Alerts.
If you were doing it right you should see search results while entering the search term in Google Alerts in English.

You're the best man. I made a sale on my 5th day with 2 blogs I am promoting.
I'm assuming it was just luck, because I didn't get that many hops. (only 6)
I'm also only getting slideshare, wordpress blogs and youtube links in my google alerts. No forums
Slideshare doesnt allow hyperlinks, and neither does youtube (duh)
Wordpress blog admins never approve my comments because they include links in them...
Any help meathead?

Been at this for six months now.I got all kinds of traffic on three blogs and I haven't made a sell on anything.
If you've already been getting tons of traffic but you haven't been getting any sales, it could be one of three things or possibly a combination of:
1. As mentioned by the OP, perhaps it's just your product/niche and it's time to change.
2. Your ads are poorly optimized.
3. Your "review" content is weak and does not convert.
If anything, just stick Adsense onto your site and make a few cents a day and cut your losses

Getting about 3-4 sales per week mainly through commenting on blogs. Unfortunately I started with very cheap products ($10 - $17) and I could have earned much more by picking something more expensive.

WoW. This is ridiculously easy to pull off. Tried this and within 3 days of getting settled and putting my own spin on the whole idea I made 88$ with 3 sales on 22 UV's and I am just getting started. This really really should be illegal. With said niche and method and spin I see this easily nailing 400-700$ a day.

WOW I have only just seen this thread. It seems like this method is still good to go, so I will put this to action tonight. Just one thing I don't understand, can I only use this method to sell products? I don't understand how you could get them to complete a survey?

Stick to product reviews for now, works well. You could mix it up with content locking or adsense or any other monetization method but I haven't seen that work as well.
